What do you need to make a Christmas Stocking Holder?

  • Banister Post (check out your local restore!)
  • (4) 4” x 5” wooden boards (to hold the banister up)
  • Large Wooden Board
  • Red, White, and Green Acrylic Paint
  • Red Spray Paint
  • Hanging Hooks
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Ribbon (Optional)
  • Glitter (Optional)
  • Embellishments (Optional)
  • Glue (For Embellishments)
  • Hot Glue Gun (For Ribbon)

How do you make a stocking holder?

Firstly, spray paint the banister post and the four base pieces according to the directions on the can. Allow the spray paint to dry after every coat, it may take several coats to complete, once finished set them aside.   

Project Tip: You can find a banister railing at your local restore, you may even get lucky and find one that’s already painted white.

Next, paint the face of the main board with red acrylic paint; you’ll likely need more than one coat. Once dry, paint the back of the board and the outer edge.

Once the face board is completely dry, measure and lightly draw a line to use as a guideline for your lettering. Be sure not to press too hard with or it will dent the board.

This week we are bringing you a DIY home decor project that will display the all of the Christmas cards you receive.  We love this craft because it’s easy to make and you can reuse it every year. This card display is big and holds a lot of cards in addition, it doubles as a pin board you can pin post card style cards and Christmas photos too!

The materials for this project were bought from a local department store, the fabric we used is actually a sparkly table cloth! It’s certainly amazing what you can find if you use your imagination. You could also check out your local craft or fabric store, they always have a lot of selection.

DIY Christmas Card Wall Display and Pin Board Idea

What you’ll need:

  • Foam board (36” x 24”)
  • Christmas fabric or table cloth (as we used here)
  • Mod Podge glue
  • Hot glue gun/glue sticks
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Ruler/measuring tape
  • 2 foam brushes
  • Push pins
cut the fabric at the corners so it will fit snug

Firstly, measure and and cut your fabric to fit the foam board.  Leave about two inches of material to wrap around the edges of the board. Cut the corners of the fabric to remove any bulkiness, therefore resulting in a nicer fit that’s easier to glue down.

Secondly, using the foam brush apply a thick layer of Mod Podge to the back of the foam board.  After that, fold the fabric over the edges to glue it in place.  Continue this process until all of the fabric is secured.  Set the board aside and allow it to dry completely.

Once the mod podge has dried you can add the ribbon.  Measure the lengths you need and cut it to fit. Then, secure the ribbon onto the board with the hot glue gun. Be sure to measure the spacing between each ribbon.  Double check with a card!

Are you ready for it? We are! And the first step every year is to send out cards to friends and loved ones. You may even be receiving some already which it perfect, because we’re excited to be sharing these Christmas Card Holders, with three ways to decorate them, for any and all seasonal style. It’s the perfect, easy DIY to break into the holiday season. What You’ll Need: A shallow wood box Acrylic paint Glitter (optional) Hot glue gun and sticks Mini decorations Small clothes pegs Paint the inside of the box mint and then the outside a bright, deep pink. Add a layer of glue to the inside part of the box, covering the mint then sprinkle with glitter. Glue the mini decorations and clothes pin in place. Be sure to let everything dry between steps. Paint the entire box dark grey. When the grey is dry, use a sponge brush to add a light layer of white to create a weathered wood look. To make this effect, dip the sponge into paint and wipe off any excess before dragging the sponge lightly across the wood. Add some mini decorations to the bottom of the box. Paint the inside of the box silver and the outside gold, and then finish with the mini decorations and clothespins. Now you can display your Christmas card and photos in style, happy crafting! Besides surrounding yourself with family, friends, drinks, food and cheer – decorations are a must for this night of all nights. What You’ll Need: 12” Wood clock base Paint brushes (one broad and one fine tipped) White and Black paint Gold sparkle ribbon or ribbon tape Clock kit White transfer paper Pencil Free printable template (click here) Paint face of your clock black.  Cut your template out, following the black circle outline. This will allow you to align the template to the outside edge of your clock base. Lay a sheet of the transfer paper out onto your clock base and then place your template on top of the transfer paper, aligning the edge of the paper with the clock base.  Use a pencil to trace over each letter which will leave a chalky outline. Following the pattern you made with the transfer paper, use the white paint and your fine tipped brush to fill in the letters on your clock face. A paint marker would work well for this too. Attach ribbon or ribbon tape around the outside edge of the clock. Add the clock hands and motor, while most kits include threading the motor shaft through the centre of the clock and attaching the hands with the bolts provided, follow the directions on your kit. What You’ll Need:
  • 12” Wood clock base
  • Paint brushes (one broad and one fine tipped)
  • White and Black paint
  • Gold sparkle ribbon or ribbon tape
  • Clock kit
  • White transfer paper
  • Pencil
  • Free printable template (click here)
