What do you need to make a Paper Plate Monster?

• Paper plates
• Scissors
• Paint
• Paint brushes

How do you make a Paper Plate Monster?

• Cut a hole out of the center of a paper plate. This will create a big open “mouth” for the monster. Take this time to cut out any teeth, ears or other monster accessories that you think will be fun.
• Then paint the paper circle. Have the kids go wild with colour choices and designs!
• Paint any horns, ears or accessories.
• Glue on the googly eyes.
• Glue on the teeth, horns and other monster accessories.
• Hang them on the wall or mantel and enjoy!!

Easy to follow photo tutorial!

First, cut a hole out of the center of a paper plate. This will create a big open “mouth” for the monster. Take this time to cut out any teeth, ears, horns or other monster parts that you think will be fun, for example, one of our little ones decided to put some hearts on the ends of pipe cleaners to create antennas.

Then paint the paper circle. Have the kids go wild with colour choices and designs!

Add any fun details with the paint. One of our kids decided to add fingerprint “spots” onto their monster.

Paint any horns, ears or accessories. Set all painted pieces, including the monster, aside to dry completely.

Glue on the eyes. We suggest using a hot glue gun (with adult supervision). If you have very young children you can use kids-safe glue, but remember to set it aside to dry completely.

Once all paint has dried, glue on any arms, horns and teeth.

What you’ll need:

• Small smooth rocks
• Child friendly paint in fall colours
• Paint brushes
• 8×10 picture frame (glass removed)
• White card stock (cut into an 8×10 piece)
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun with glue
• Burlap ribbon

Kids Rock Painting Fall Frame

Firstly, paint the rocks! Grab some paint and brushes and have the kids paint the rocks with Thanksgiving or fall in mind. It’s fun to see what they will come up with. Once the rocks are finished, set them aside to dry completely.

While the littles are painting their rocks, prepare the frame by removing the glass (if not already done) and adding the cut 8×10 piece of card stock.

Once the rocks have dried use the hot glue gun to glue the rocks into the centre of the frame.

Then measure and cut a length of burlap ribbon to make a circle around the the rocks. Twist the burlap to create some loops. Finish the circle by twisting the two ends together, be sure to tuck in any loose fibres.

Finally, glue the burlap circle around the rocks to finish.

What do you need to make an easy Mother’s Day Kid’s Craft?

• Canvas
• Painter’s tape
• Paint
• Craft knife
• Paint brush
• Letter stencil
• Stencil glue
• Black paint pen

How to make a Heart Craft for Mom:

Draw a heart onto the canvas and cover it with painter’s tape. Press down on the edges of the tape to seal the gaps. This will help prevent the paint from leaking under the tape.

Add dots of paint to the heart in alternating colours. Choose Mom’s favourite colours or opt for bright and fun!

Now for the fun part! Give your little one a paintbrush, or sponge, or use none and have some fun finger painting! Before the paint dries, consider adding glitter or paint “splashes” from a brush.

Set the art aside and allow it to dry. This could take some time and may be the hardest part of this kid’s craft! Once the paint has dried completely, remove the painter’s tape. Be sure to pull slowly to avoid peeling.

Little ones may need help with this step, while older kids may like to do this part themselves! Use some sticky tack to secure a letter stencil ‘O’ to the middle of the heart. Fill in the stencil with a black paint marker. Peel off the stencil and let dry. Repeat the steps with an ‘M’ on either side of the ‘O’, allowing each letter to dry completely before moving on to the next.

Finally, wrap this beautiful gift up and give it to Mom on Mother’s Day!

These Easter Bunny pots can be painted any colour, something to keep in mind when your shopping for supplies. Each dollar store has slightly different materials each season, so you never know exactly what you’ll find — especially when considering the bunny ears!

There are so many different bunnies to create. It’s cute to see what everyone comes up with, their individual choices are adorable!

After a trip to the dollar store, be sure to place some paper down on your crafting surface, because this craft gets messy!

What do you need to make Easy Easter Bunny Pots?

• Easter bunny ears
• Clay pots – medium in size but big enough to support your bunny ears.
• Child friendly paints – in any colour!
• Paint brushes
• Two medium Pom Poms
• One small Pom Pom
• Pipe cleaners
• Googly eyes
• Ribbon or other accessory
• Hot glue gun with glue or child safe glue for the littles

How to make an Easy Easter Craft for Kids to Make

• Firstly, paint the clay pot in the desired colour.
• Set it aside to dry. It won’t take long to dry.
• Using a glue gun or child safe glue add the googly eyes, PomPom nose and muzzle, whiskers and accessories
• Set aside to dry
• Add the cute bunny ears using glue (allow to dry again!)
• When all the glue has dried, fill your pot with delicious Easter goodies!

Easy Tutorial!

Firstly, paint the clay pot in the desired colour. Then set it aside to dry — the hardest part for the little ones. But don’t worry, the clay pot absorbs moisture and the paint will dry fairly quickly!

When the pot is dry, add the facial features!

Using a glue gun or child safe glue add the googly eyes, PomPom nose and cheeks.

Create your bunnies whiskers using pipe cleaners. Wrap the pipe cleaner around a pencil to create curls, then cut the pipe cleaner into small pieces and glue them onto the bunny, just under the cheeks.

Take your time and allow the glue to dry completely when finished.

Remove the bunny ears from the headband or hair clips. Some are glued on and only need to be pulled off and some need to be removed with scissors.

Add the cute bunny ears using glue (this step is definitely easier when using a hot glue gun).

Remember to take your time and allow the glue to dry completely when finished.

Finally, fill your bunny with yummy Easter treats and enjoy!!

What do you need to make a Valentine’s Kids Craft Popsicle Stick Frame?

• 8 popsicle sticks
• All purpose, kid friendly glue
• Q-Tips
• Paint in red, white and pink
• A photo or drawn picture to frame

How do you make a Valentine’s Kids Craft Popsicle Stick Frame?

• Glue 8 popsicle sticks together with all purpose kid friendly glue, allow to dry.
• Dip the Q-Tips into the paint and place some dots along the popsicle sticks, create different patterns and designs, set aside to dry.
• Cut a heart out of card stock for a picture frame back. Glue this onto the painted popsicle stick frame.
• Add a picture or drawing!

Firstly, arrange the popsicle sticks into a square, with the horizontal sticks sitting on tope of the vertical ones. Add the other four so there are two popsicle sticks on each side (see picture)

Secondly, glue the sticks into place and set them aside to dry

Once the glue has dried, paint the popsicle sticks using the Q-Tips. Dip one end of the Q-Tip into the paint and place dots around the frame. It’s always fun to see what design each child creates.

While the popsicle stick frame is drying, cut a heart out of card stock. Once the paint has dried, glue it to the card stock heart to create a frame “backing” to hold the photo or drawing.

Lastly, add a photo or drawing!!

Materials for this craft can be found at your local craft store – there should be some themed stencils in stock right about now, but if not you can always free hand your design like we did!  This craft is great because, like many of our projects, it doesn’t take long to finish.  

Easy DIY Canada Day Wooden Welcome Sign

What You’ll Need:

• Hanging wood plaque
• Red Paint
• White Paint 
• Paint Brushes
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Stencils (optional)
• Glitter (optional)

Firstly, using the ruler and pencil, measure and mark the wood plaque, dividing it into four equal parts. Be careful to not press too hard with the pencil as it can leave marks in soft wood. Once divided, paint the two outside portions, leaving the middle to create the iconic maple leaf. Set aside to dry.

Secondly, draw your maple leaf in the middle of your plank, use the ruler to measure a square in the centre of the plaque; draw your leaf inside and then paint the it red.  If using a stencil, use painters tape to secure the stencil and then gently dab the paint inside of the stencil to create the leaf.  Set aside to dry.

Finally, pencil in, or stencil your lettering. Once you’re happy with the lettering go ahead and paint it using white paint.  Again, set it aside to dry. Add some sparkles before the paint dries if you want!

• Plain coasters (a great dollar store find)
• Colourful, bright paints
• Paint brushes
• Masking Tape
• A fun decal or sticker
• Varnish

How to make Colour Pop Coasters:

Begin by using the masking tape to divide the coasters in half diagonally.

Paint the un-taped half of the coasters and then let dry before removing the tape.

Paint the other side of the coasters with a complimentary colour and then let dry. The painted side can be taped to make it easier, just be sure the paint underneath is absolutely dry or it can be peeled off when the tape is removed.

Finally, add a fun, summery sticker. We found these gold pineapples – which we love! Other inspirations could be flowers, flamingos, Popsicle’s, watermelons, a sun….really anything and everything summery. Finally, finish with a coat of varnish to seal everything in place.

When creating your sign, be sure to add your own holiday traditions. Hot chocolate drinking, tree cutting, toy drives, Christmas markets, caroling, and stringing or touring Christmas lights are all examples of popular Christmas traditions. Also, use colours that you love for the boards and letters.

Let’s get this project started!  

Personalized DIY Outdoor Christmas Wood Sign Post

What you’ll need:

• 4 wood planks 1.5 x 1 x 5
• 1 wood plank 2 x 1 x 5
• 1 wood post 
• Paint brushes
• Acrylic paint in brick red, off white, slate grey, deep sparkly green, and black (used here)
• Outdoor wood sealer (we used a spray sealer)
• Nails
• Hammer
• Any embellishments
• Stencils (or hand paint your wording)
• Pencil

Firstly, paint the wood planks and the post.  Apply a coat of paint to the boards. Multiple coats may be needed but be sure to allow the boards to dry completely between each coat of paint.  

Secondly, begin the lettering.  You can free hand your designs or choose a stencil which will certainly make it easier.  Either way, use the pencil lightly to avoid creating damage to the wood.

Once the sayings and traditions roughed in, paint them!  Alternate colours to give it some more character.  Once again, set aside and allow it to dry completely.

Once the boards and post are finished, you will need to seal them with an outdoor sealer. This will help keep the weather out and keep the sign looking great in all weather types.  

Once the sealer is dry, nail all the boards to the post.  Try to nail the boards on a slight angle, giving the post some character and certainly an eye catching effect!
