Countdown to Halloween Advent Blocks https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/countdown-to-halloween-advent-blocks/ Sat, 12 Aug 2023 19:12:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1718 Advent calendars are usually reserved for Christmas but these distressed countdown to Halloween Advent Blocks are a fun way to keep track of how many days are left until trick or treating. It’s also a fun way to help keep track of how many days are left to finish up costumes and pick up candy for the big night. Speaking of October 31, get your porch ready for little ghosts and ghouls with our Creepy Spider Planter. Some wood blocks, paint and sandpaper and you are ready to create! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Wood blocks Acrylic paints Small plastic skulls Paint pen Sandpaper Paint brushes Glue Paint two square blocks in a solid colour and then set aside to dry completely. We chose a bright green as it gives a fabulous pop of colour underneath the black overlay. Paint three small plastic skulls black and then let dry. While the skulls are drying, paint black on the two blocks to cover the green and let dry. Paint the base block black and then set aside to dry. Use some gold paint to dry brush over the skulls. Dry brushing is a painting technique where a dry paint brush is used with a minimal amount of paint. The result is brush strokes that have a scratchy look that lacks the smooth appearance regular painting commonly has. Use sandpaper or a sanding block to remove some of the black paint to reveal the green underneath, therefore giving them a distressed look. Stencil numbers onto the Halloween blocks. One block should have numbers 0 through 5 and the second should have 1,2,3 and 0, so every day in the calendar can be read. On the base block, write ‘Days Til Halloween’ with the paint pen or stencil. Lastly, glue the skulls to the side of the base in a tower. Let the countdown begin – we hope you have fun making these Halloween Advent Blocks – happy crafting!

So we spent one morning making some beautiful parent and child shared art – using brushes, hands, and toes. Keep reading for a full tutorial for how you and your littles can make your own Christmas canvas. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need to make Handprint Christmas Art for Kids: Canvas Paint – gray, white, yellow, black, green, red Paint brushes Wood circle Glue Start by painting the canvas in light gray. Bigger kids can do this step themselves, but smaller hands may need your help. We painted Baby M’s canvas for him. Set the canvas aside to dry, and then paint the wooden or paper circle red. Now let your little ones get creative! Let them paint with their fingers in white and yellow paint – creating random dots all over the canvas. You may end up with more splotches than dots – but that’s perfectly ok! Add your little ones handprint to the red circle, and then let it dry. Paint a tree branch onto the canvas, and then paint many small green needles along the branch. Add black lowlights to some – but not all – of the needles, and then add some highlights. Glue the wooden circle to the canvas, underneath your branch. Paint on an ornament top, and then a string, and you’re done! A beautiful holiday keepsake you and your child created together. This super easy Toddler Turkey Art is a project that your little will love. Once you prepare the canvas for them, they can paint and create all by themselves. And you will have a beautiful keepsake to hang every Thanksgiving. Baby M, who helped us out, is 16M – and he loved it so much! He loved getting his hands messy and really loved using the small sponge brush. He is SO proud of the final result – it’s hanging in Victoria’s home and Baby M points at it everyday – he is so proud of himself and his art! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need to make our Toddler Turkey Art: A canvas – we used an 8 x 10 Painter’s tape Water based acrylic paints – we used red, yellow, orange, gold and brown Paper in white and yellow Sharpie Sealer Sponge brush or paint brush Paper plate or reusable paint palette Ruler Pencil Craft knife Begin by lightly drawing out a semi-circle in the center of the canvas – this will be the turkey’s head. Next, use a ruler to mark radiating lines out from the center of the canvas to the outer edge. Cover the turkey’s head with painters tape, trimming the curved edge with a sharp craft knife. Cut the painters tape into thin stripes and then add the stripes to the canvas where the pencil lines were drawn. Add more thin stripes of painters tape opposite to the pencil lines – creating a grid like pattern. Uneven lines are perfectly okay! Create and paint! Lay out paint on a plate and then let your little go wild. Baby M even got his feet involved! Let the paint fully dry and then pull the tape off of the canvas. Use some brown paint to colour in the turkey’s head. Once this is dry, glue some eyes and a beak cut out from paper (add pupils with a sharpie) onto the turkey’s head. Cover the canvas with a sealer (like Mod Podge) and then your little masterpiece is done! We hope you and your littles love our Toddler Turkey Art! Modern Easter Eggs in Graphic Patterns, Gold, and Navy https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/modern-easter-eggs-in-graphic-patterns-gold-and-navy/ Fri, 26 Mar 2021 18:50:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1023 One of the most enduring Easter traditions, painting eggs is a always great family fun! These eggs usually end up with a typical look – pastel colours in abstract patterns, eggs dipped in dye, maybe some India ink. But becoming more and more popular are new and unique versions of the traditional eggs. Bold colours, stamping, metallics, colour-blocking….the creativity is really infinite. So we’re throwing our hat in on this Easter décor trend with some modern Easter eggs in graphic patterns, gold and navy – a fun update for the most traditional of Easter decorations. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Eggs Spray paint Gold, white and navy paint Brushes Stamps Ink pad Spray paint some eggs in blue and leave some white. The blue will take a few coats so patience is key here, be sure to let them dry completely between layers. We have a lot of snow right now (and it wasn’t too cold out, spray paint doesn’t like the cold) so we used it as a stand to hold up our eggs, but a block of Styrofoam will work too. Use an ink pad to stamp multiple pictures all over the some of the eggs. When stamping, gently roll the stamp onto the egg, this will help leave a full image and stop the stamp from slipping. Do half the egg, let dry, and then do the other side. Paint colour blocks in white or blue onto the eggs and let dry. Add gold to the eggs in various shapes and stripes. Display the Easter eggs in a vase, terrarium, or bowl and then let your modern Easter decorating begin. Happy Crafting! And seasonal décor just isn’t complete without a great door hanger. Today, let’s make this easy (and adorable!) door decoration using felt, thread, paint and ribbon. We used a burlap ribbon and painted it for texture and depth – but a green ribbon or tulle would work equally well if you’re not in the mood to break out your paints. Use what you have on hand, put your own twist on our projects and then remember to share your creations on our Facebook page, in the comments, or on Instagram! We always love to see or friends creations. Let’s dig into this project and decorate your entryway in time for the Easter bunny to stop by. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need:          Orange felt – the thicker the better Burlap ribbon Coloured thread and needle Hot glue gun and sticks Green paint and sponge Draw three carrots onto some orange felt and then cut them out. Use the embroidery thread to make lines through the carrot, add as many lines as you like. Glue the carrots together at the tops, overlapping slightly, so the carrots spread out. Add some burlap ribbon by piling it on top of itself to create volume. Add a green bow. If you like, sponge some light and dark green paint onto the burlap ribbon and let dry, in order to create some depth to the plain ribbon. Enjoy your new Easter door decoration and Happy Crafting! Cute Easter Handprint and Footprint Craft Ideas https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/cute-easter-handprint-and-footprint-craft-ideas/ Fri, 05 Mar 2021 01:10:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1361 Check out these super CUTE Easter hand print and foot print ideas!  These little critters look adorable on the mantel or the wall, and the kids will love creating them.  Cute Easter Handprint and Footprint Craft Ideas are easy to make and the materials can be found at the dollar store, but be warned…you will need plenty of wipes on hand!! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. These little keepsakes are priceless, handprint, footprint and fingerprint art is ALWAYS a great idea.  This print art has it all, the chick is a handprint, the carrot a footprint and finally the bunny is a heal print with fingerprint ears! You really can’t go wrong with these cute Easter critters. Since our carrot was only five weeks old and siblings three and five years, the canvas’s didn’t need to be very big. Certainly use your judgement when selecting the canvas size, you could also have all three characters on one canvas. Cute Easter Handprint and Footprint Craft Ideas What you’ll need: For the Bunny: a 4″x 4″ canvas yellow, light pink, dark pink and black paint child safe white paint *optional – pink glitter and glue* For the Chick: a 4″x 4″ canvas light green, orange, white and black paint child safe yellow paint *optional – orange glitter and glue* For the carrot: a 4″x 4″ canvas light blue, dark orange, green paint child safe orange paint *optional – green and orange glitter and glue* Step 1 – The base coat.   Firstly, using the indicated colours, apply a base coat to your canvas.  You may need to apply two coats, if so allow the paint to dry completely between each coat and once again when thoroughly painted. Step 2 – The hand/foot/finger print.  Above all, be sure to have plenty of wipes or paper towel handy for clean-up!!  The bunny requires a painted heal and two (or one) painted finger.  The heel should be painted in white paint and then pressed onto the canvas, this will create the bunny’s head/upper body.  Allow this to dry before adding the finger print ears.  Painting one finger is a little easier to maneuver then two.  To create the chick, apply a generous amount of paint to the hand and press onto the canvas, set aside to dry.  The carrot is created by applying a generous amount of paint to the foot and pressing it onto the canvas. Once again, set aside to dry. Easter Critter Keepsakes.  Fun Kids Craft! Step 3 – The Details.   Now for the sightly tricky part.  The bunny requires eyes, a nose, a mouth and some whiskers painted in.  Also some pink on the ears to give the bunny some character.  The Chick needs eyes, eyelashes and a beak.  Finally, the carrot needs some darker orange lines painted in to represent the gradations seen on a real carrot and some green on top for the stem.  Paint these details as you see here or create your own character features! *Step 4 – Optional glitter*   We love everything that sparkles so it was a must to add sparkle to these cute critters.  To create some sparkle, we used some all purpose glue and crafting glitter.  The bunny has pink glitter added to accent the ears and nose, the chick has orange glitter on its beak and finally the carrot has orange glitter along the dark orange gradations and green glitter for the stem. In short, you will never tire of these Cute Easter Handprint and Footprint Craft Ideas!  If you’re looking for some more Easter critters check out our Cute Critter Treat Jars or if your looking for a beautiful decor piece see these Modern Easter Eggs in a Graphic Pattern.
