DIY Magic Monster Spray https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/diy-magic-monster-spray/ https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/diy-magic-monster-spray/#respond Tue, 19 Sep 2023 16:54:08 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=6607 This time of year can be scary for little ones so we want to take this opportunity to share a helpful hack — Magic Monster Spray! If your little one is afraid of monsters at bedtime, this magic monster spray might just help. It’s very easy to make and helps children conquer their fear of monsters, and other nighttime insecurities they may have. Not sure what to do when your child is afraid of the dark or becomes afraid of monsters following Halloween? DIY Magic Monster Spray could be the answer. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. We can tell you first hand that this monster spray has worked. How do we know? One of Christine’s Sugarplums became afraid of monsters.  Her other two never had a problem sleeping in their own room, never had nightmares, and didn’t need a nightlight. But her middle daughter let those monsters in. So, in a struggle to help her sleep better we created some very special, very powerful DIY Magic Monster Spray with essential oils.  Thank goodness it worked! A good night’s sleep. We recommend making the Magic Monster Spray together with your children. That way you can talk about their fears while they are having fun making a craft. When adding the essential oil, you can simply say that monsters hate the smell of essential oils. How do you use Monster Spray? After your normal bedtime routine, bring out the magic monster spray.  You can explain again that the magic spray will not let any monsters into the room, then ask where the monsters are getting in. Spray those areas first. Let your child spray and have siblings and family help as well. Spray other areas too, like windows or closet doors. Keep the bottle within reach and hopefully, with Magic Monster spray nearby, bedtime monsters will soon be history! Here’s the recipe we used: DIY Magic Monster Spray Plastic spray bottle Distilled water Sequins or gemstones Lavender essential oil Stickers Here’s how to make Monster Spray Place stickers onto the spray bottle. Fill the bottle with water. Add the sequins or gemstones. Add a few drops of essential oil. DIY Magic Monster Spray Tutorial This Monster Spray is so easy to make.  First, stick your stickers onto the bottle.  Then all you have to do is put the ingredients into the bottle.  Start with the water, then add some gemstones, and finally a couple drops of essential oil.  Give the bottle a swirl before each use. The essential oils give a fragrance to fend off the monsters. After all, if we can smell it…the monsters can too, right? The gems are for added fun. And the label makes it legit. They will check it out, even if they can’t read! We hope you liked this DIY Monster Spray with essential oils, and hope that it has helped your little one have a restful night! These creepy quesadillas are perfect for Halloween, they are super easy (honestly!) to make and so much fun. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. This recipe is fairly simple, great for picky eaters. But there’s lots of room for kicking up the flavour – try adding shredded rotisserie chicken, avocado, refried beans, green onions and any other toppings you love. What You’ll Need: Tortillas Red pepper Onion Salt and pepper Oil Cheddar and Mozzarella shredded cheese Salsa Cutting board Sharp knife Large pan Firstly, thinly slice the onion and red pepper. Add the sliced onions, red peppers, salt and pepper, and oil to a pan. And then cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Place a tortilla on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to cut eyes into the tortilla. And then some nostrils, and finish the face with a scary smile. Top another tortilla with some of the cooked onions and red peppers, and then the two shredded cheeses, and then some salsa. Top the quesadilla with the scary face we cut out earlier. Cook the tortilla in a pan on medium heat for about 10 minutes. We recommend not flipping the tortilla as the cheese will melt through the face holes and will certainly leave a bit of a mess. These creepy quesadillas are such a fun Halloween food idea – perfect for lunch, dinner and party appetizers! Easy Creepy Quesadillas We hope you loved this creepy Halloween dinner recipe. How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-make-a-macrame-pumpkin-cover/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 16:53:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=3203 This is an easy macrame project, perfect for beginners or experts! A great project for Thanksgiving or Halloween. See how to make your own Macrame Pumpkin Cover for your table, foyer, mantel or porch. This pumpkin cover is perfect for false pumpkins or real ones. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. We recently shared our Macrame Plant Hanger Tutorial and we loved it so much we decided to create a pattern for Halloween or Thanksgiving! It can work for either occasion. This easy macrame pattern is guaranteed to get you hooked on this classic art form. This project is very simple and totally fun. The best part is you can get all the materials at your local dollar store. You can use a foam pumpkin or real – then all you need is some strong cotton yarn or thin cord.  A glue gun and scissors are also needed. This craft does take some time to finish but once you get a good flow going, your knots will be done in no time. What do you need to make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover? Cotton yarn or cord Foam or real pumpkin Hot glue gun with glue sticks Scissors How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover – Macrame Pumpkin Wrap Firstly, cut a long single piece of string – the length will depend on the size of your pumpkin.  You basically need it to go around the top of your pumpkin stump. This will act as the centre “loop”. Secondly, cut several long lengths of string. Be sure to cut them long, making the knots will take up some of the length. We cut ours to about 36 inches long. Double each strand. Attach the long lengths of string to the original length of string (the one that will become the centre loop). A simple loop around is all that is needed to being the macrame. Once all of the strings are looped around, tie the original length together to form the loop.   Lay your circle on the table and begin making your square knots. We will use this simple knot for the whole cover.  You may find it easier to work on the table or maybe directly on the pumpkin – do whatever feels best for you. Begin by taking two of the looped strings and splitting them into four equal parts, two strings per group. Cross the far left strings over the middle two and under the far right. Then, bring the far right up under the middle two strings and through the hole created by the first step. Gently pull the strings together to form a knot. See the picture for a visual step by step. Repeat this step across the entire loop, then again until there are about three layers of knots. You’re Almost Finished Your New Macrame Pumpkin Cover! This craft looks best if the knots cover at least half of the pumpkin and the tassels reach the table top. When there are enough macrame knots tie the ends off using a simple knot. Cut the extra string off. Finally, separate the tassels to make them ‘puff’. Crafters Tip: You can use your hot glue gun to attach the macrame pattern to the top of your foam/real pumpkin. This will keep it secure to the pumpkin, so it won’t slide around. We hope you liked this How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover – Macrame Beginner Knot tutorial.

Then, bring the far right up under the middle two strings and through the hole created by the first step. Gently pull the strings together to form a knot. See the picture for a visual step by step.

Repeat this step across the entire loop, then again until there are about three layers of knots.

Countdown to Halloween Advent Blocks https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/countdown-to-halloween-advent-blocks/ Sat, 12 Aug 2023 19:12:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1718 Advent calendars are usually reserved for Christmas but these distressed countdown to Halloween Advent Blocks are a fun way to keep track of how many days are left until trick or treating. It’s also a fun way to help keep track of how many days are left to finish up costumes and pick up candy for the big night. Speaking of October 31, get your porch ready for little ghosts and ghouls with our Creepy Spider Planter. Some wood blocks, paint and sandpaper and you are ready to create! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Wood blocks Acrylic paints Small plastic skulls Paint pen Sandpaper Paint brushes Glue Paint two square blocks in a solid colour and then set aside to dry completely. We chose a bright green as it gives a fabulous pop of colour underneath the black overlay. Paint three small plastic skulls black and then let dry. While the skulls are drying, paint black on the two blocks to cover the green and let dry. Paint the base block black and then set aside to dry. Use some gold paint to dry brush over the skulls. Dry brushing is a painting technique where a dry paint brush is used with a minimal amount of paint. The result is brush strokes that have a scratchy look that lacks the smooth appearance regular painting commonly has. Use sandpaper or a sanding block to remove some of the black paint to reveal the green underneath, therefore giving them a distressed look. Stencil numbers onto the Halloween blocks. One block should have numbers 0 through 5 and the second should have 1,2,3 and 0, so every day in the calendar can be read. On the base block, write ‘Days Til Halloween’ with the paint pen or stencil. Lastly, glue the skulls to the side of the base in a tower. Let the countdown begin – we hope you have fun making these Halloween Advent Blocks – happy crafting!

This terrifying recipe has a spicy kick thanks to a mix of horseradish and hot sauce, and the onion eyeball stir stick ups the flavour and also the scare factor! But black vodka is the key to the Halloween vibe of this cocktail. There are a few brands of black vodka our there, and you should be able to find one at your local liquor store – especially after fall starts. Put the lid on the shaker and mix thoroughly. Add some ice (or ice stones if you prefer) to the bottom of a glass. Add the black vodka. To make the layering effect, use the back of spoon to gently pour the vodka so it settles nicely on top of the clamato juice. Thread three or four cocktail onions onto a mini skewer. This planter is not only fun and creepy, it’s easy to make. All of the materials for this DIY halloween idea were found at the local dollar store. DIY Outdoor Halloween Decor – Creepy Spider Planter What you’ll need: Black or grey flower pot Tissue paper Cotten spider web Fake spiders Spider webbing Tall cylindrical vase (or similar to give some height) Firstly, add some tissue paper to the bottom of the pot, this will give the glass cylinder something to sit securely on while filling in some space. Secondly, place the cylindrical vase into the middle of the vase, this will help create some height for the planter. Next, add some of the spider webbing, the type you find in the halloween section at the dollar store. Place it around the vase and covering the vase completely. Next, add the cotton and regular spider webbing. When searching in the dollar store we found some cotton webs in grey and black, which looks great with the grey pot. Add the white spider webbing first, placing it into the cylinder with some tiny spiders thrown. Cascade it out of the cylinder and into the pot. Add the cotton webbing next, drape some around and on top of the vase, once again cascading down into the pot. Finally, add the creepy spiders and other crawlers if you have them. The Cutest Halloween Dessert Table or Charcuterie Board Decoration https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/the-cutest-halloween-dessert-table-or-charcuterie-board-decoration/ Mon, 18 Oct 2021 15:01:28 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1287 Charcuterie boards have been a popular item recently but we haven’t really seen any decorations to go along with them…until now! This week we want to share this super cute Halloween Dessert Charcuterie Board Decoration. This polymer clay sculpture is easy to make, whether this is your first time using polymer clay or if you’re a seasoned pro, these characters are super cute and fun to make!  This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. If you haven’t used polymer clay before, these will be an easy introduction.  The polymer clay needs to be cured – or cooked. An old toaster oven (one you aren’t going to use for food anymore) is great for clay cooking. Today’s polymer clay design requires clay that comes in different colours, then when the sculpture is cured we need to paint the little eyes and noses. Halloween Dessert Charcuterie Board Decoration or Dessert Centrepiece What do you need to make a charcuterie board or dessert table decoration? Polymer clay in: white, black, orange, green and brown Clay pot Toothpicks Floral foam (to place in the pot) Spanish moss Glue Paint (for the small details) in white, blue, pink and black Pain brush Small crochet hook How To Make The Cutest DIY Halloween Dessert or Charcuterie Board Decoration! What are some Quick Polymer Clay Tips? Firstly you’ll need to knead all of the clay to soften it, try to avoid creating bubbles and squish out any that do form. Bake your clay in an oven or toaster oven. Polymer clay cures at 275 F which is even lower than baking cookies! Polymer clay should be baked using the manufacturer’s advised temperature (usually 230°F – 275°F). Baking times are typically 15 – 30 minutes for each ¼ inch thickness. Thinner sculptures will take less time than thicker. Place your clay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. For sculptures like ours, you can use a cornstarch bed or we prefer a polyester fibre to hold the characters shape. To avoid browning you can use aluminum foil cake pans to place your sculptures in and cover with another. How to make a polymer clay ghost: Firstly, begin with the white clay, role a small oval with a point on the top, bend the point down, use the small crochet hook to create an open mouth. Secondly, place a toothpick into the bottom of the head, we will use this to attach the ghost’s body. For the body of the ghost, create a long oval and form it into the shape of the ghost. Add two arms, beginning with a cylinder shape and then pressing one end with your finger to create a dent, add a toothpick to each arm. Stick the head and arms into the body of the ghost. Add a toothpick to the bottom of the body so it can stick into the foam. How to make a polymer clay cat: The cat is done in a similar fashion and therefore not very difficult. Create four cylindrical legs and a round head, insert a toothpick into each piece and stab them into the round body. Certainly don’t forget to add a long tail and some triangle ears! Add a toothpick to the bottom of the cat. How to make polymer clay pumpkins: Lastly, create pumpkins using the orange clay. Roll 2-3 balls of of clay, varying in size and shape. Create one oval, tall pumpkin and some smaller, rounder ones as well. Once you have your desired shape, use a toothpick to create the ribs of the pumpkins. Finally, add a brown stem and a shaped green leaf to the top of each pumpkin, you could get more detailed and add a small brown vine to some of the pumpkins! Don’t forget to add toothpicks in the bottom of each to stick into the foam. Putting it all together: Finally, place all of the pieces in the toaster oven and bake according to the packaging (see our quick tips above!) While the clay is in the oven, cut and fit the styrofoam into the clay pot.  Place some glue into the pot to make it secure.   Finally, once the cute characters have cooled you can stick them into the foam and use glue to adhere the Spanish moss around the characters to create the ground. Voilà!  We hope you loved The Cutest Halloween Charcuterie Board and Dessert Table Decoration!! We think it’s so cute and the perfect way to add a little cuteness to your Halloween party, work event or family dessert!

Putting it all together:

Finally, place all of the pieces in the toaster oven and bake according to the packaging (see our quick tips above!)

While the clay is in the oven, cut and fit the styrofoam into the clay pot.  Place some glue into the pot to make it secure.

Finally, once the cute characters have cooled you can stick them into the foam and use glue to adhere the Spanish moss around the characters to create the ground.

Voilà!
