Personalized New Home Gingerbread House Ornament https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/personalized-new-home-gingerbread-house-ornament/ Mon, 11 May 2020 21:33:28 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1568 We always have so much fun putting up the Christmas tree every year. Every year we try to add a new ornament to reflect on something that happened that year.  Sometimes it’s a trip, maybe a new pet, one year was our wedding. This year, it was moving into our home, which is when we came up with this sweet gingerbread house ornament.  It’s also a great gift if you know someone that has recently moved into a new home. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Parchment Paper (wax paper or tin foil will also work) Oven Bake Clay Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter Snow-Tex Paint Silver Acrylic Paint Brown Acrylic Paint White Acrylic Paint Paint Brushes Clay Working Tool or BBQ skewer Scissors Ribbon House Key What you need to make your own Personalized Ornament: Press into the cookie cutter mould on top of the parchment paper, pushing it into all of the corners. Carefully push the clay out of the cookie cutter. Take a house key and press it firmly into the clay on one side of the house. Use a flat blade or putty knife to gently lift the key out of the clay and then make two holes in the chimney of the ornament for the ribbon to hang the ornament.  Bake in a 275 oven for 30 minutes (or follows the directions on the clay packaging). After cooling, paint the key impression in silver and then let dry. Paint the rest of the ornament brown and then add snow to the roof, chimney and ground using Snow Tex. Try dabbing the Snow Tex onto the clay rather than brush, to get a texturized snowy look. Paint the door shape around the key impression and a window beside it. Lastly, add the date above the door as the house number. Cut a length of ribbon and thread though the holes in the chimney.  Either hang your gingerbread house ornament on your tree or wrap it up to give to special someone to make this Christmas a little extra merry, happy crafting! PRETTY PEARL SNOWFLAKE PILLOW COVER https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/pretty-pearl-snowflake-pillow-cover/ Mon, 04 May 2020 20:28:14 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1350 We love decorating with holiday pillows. They provide an easy way to add colour and a festive feel to any room. A clever idea is to make a pillow cover instead of a stuffed pillow, which means it can slip it over an existing couch throw for the season and then remove it after. It also makes for easier storage throughout the rest of the year and needs less supplies to make it. And our snowflake pillow cover is a perfect project to tackle while watching your favourite Christmas movie, as sewing the pearls onto the cover will take time, but it’s a simple task. What You’ll Need: Felt (a large enough square to cover your throw pillows) Decorative pearls Small gems Needle and thread Bead glue Sewing machine Cut the felt into two squares large enough to cover (with some extra space) your pillow and then sew three sides together. Cut six stripes of felt and then stitch them in pairs to the open edges, these will be closures for the finished pillow. Arrange the pearls into a design that you like and then stitch each of the pearl beads into place. Use bead glue to attach the gems in a decorative pattern. Let the glue dry and then slip your new Christmas cover over an existing throw pillow. We hope you love this pretty snowflake pillow cover, please share your version with us in the comments and happy crafting! Craving some more Christmas DIY? Lay the letters out on the white cotton for spacing before you start ironing them in place. When you are happy with the placement, follow the instructions of the iron on letters you bought. Most will ask you to cover the letters with a thin cloth and hold the iron on them for a few seconds. Iron on the letters one row at a time until the verse is complete. Cut out a simplified map of Canada. You can print an online map to trace onto the fabric if you like, or free hand it. Don’t worry about following all the bumps and curves of the coastlines and don’t worry about cutting all the islands out. Large simple shapes work best for this design. If you are using transfer paper, follow the instructions on the package. Use your iron to attach a large piece of transfer paper to the patterned map and then cut away the excess paper. If you are using fabric glue then use it now to attach the map to the art. Almost done your DIY Father’s Day Art Frame! Use the double-sided tape on the back board of your frame to attach the map piece. Paint the wooden heart in the colour of your choice (we used yellow). Let dry. Glue the heart onto the map, place it in on the map where you Dad lives. Prepare to make your Dad’s day with this heartwarming Father’s Day Art gift idea. Happy Crafting! Pretty Pressed Flowers from the Garden for Mother’s Day https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/pretty-pressed-flowers-for-mothers-day/ Mon, 20 Apr 2020 20:11:32 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=894 Flowers and Mother’s Day go together like hugs and kisses – which also goes with Moms. Today, let’s put a little twist on those pre-made floral arrangements and make some pressed flowers. Littles can help to make with this one, but only with the flower collecting, as the rest of the project involves handling glass. I recruited two of my little nieces out to the yard and we helped ourselves to some of Nanny’s blooms (although they were more interested in the dandelions!). Your purchase will help us continue to bring you amazing content, step-by-steps and product reviews. Eventually I steered them to the garden and we collected enough flowers to put in our frames. One would be for their Mum (Christine) and one for Nanny. They picked out the ribbon and then I released them back to their mother. This way I could finish the frames without the fear of little fingers getting cut. Here’s how I did it: What You’ll Need: Little helpers Picked flowers Two pieces of glass (unused photo frames are a great option) Clear tape Ribbon Hot glue gun and sticks It’s just that easy – 10 minute pressed flowers (minus flower picking) gift any Mom – or Grandma. The girls were very happy to see their carefully picked flowers gifted to their mom and Nanny, and even happier when it was displayed on the wall! For another alternative to fresh flowers try our Springtime Flower Pop Pillow, a colourful DIY pillow for mom. Loving some potted flowers for Mother’s Day? Certainly check out our DIY Macrame Flower Pot Holder, a double pot holder made using simple macrame knots.

Each jar can be tweaked by you to make it extra special, after all you know your mom best, but here five ideas for inspiration. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need: A Mason Jar Ribbon Scrapbook paper Glue Lots of tiny gifts for Mom To get the jar ready, use the inner lid of the jar to trace a circle onto the scrapbook paper and cut it out, and then use some Mod Podge or glue to attach the paper circle to the lid and let dry. While the lid dries use your glue gun to attach the ribbon to the edge of the outer lid. Now that the jar is ready, let’s dive into contents.  We have four different jars that are themed to a specific hobby or interest: Baking, Spa, Crochet and Wine. If you have a mom who’s not in love with any of those, we have an Eclectic jar too.  This one has a bunch of fun, pretty and useful items that anyone would love!  Let’s check them out in detail… For those Moms who love baking, you can fill their jar with all things yummy.  Some other things your can sneak into this jar are chocolate chips, rolled oats or a favourite recipe card. Maybe your mom needs some pampering?  We think every mom does! Then this jar with everything she needs to relax in one spot is the perfect pick. You could also add candles, a sleep mask or her favourite facial scrub, mask or mosturizer. If your Mom loves to knit or crochet (like ours) this is the jar for her.  Other options are tapestry needles, stitch markers or a small paint brush roll to store all her hooks in. More gifts idea coming at you….. If your Moms hobby is drinking vino (tbh this is our speed, lol) then help her indulge with this jar made just for her.  You can also add some crackers, dried fruit or a small aerator.  Honestly, who can say no to cheese and wine?? Maybe your Mom doesn’t have a hobby or specific interest.  No problem – how about a collection of everyday, pretty and useful items?  You can put almost anything your Mom loves into this jar, as long as it fits through the top.  Think favourite stores, coffee, tea, candy and so much more!
