We wanted to keep the cost down with this decoration, seeing as half of it cannot be reused next year, so it is considered a dollar store craft!  A clear cylinder vase, two cute ceramic bunnies, glass jars of different sizes, some pretty pink flowers and candy can create all three of these Easter centrepiece decoration ideas. Keep in mind, the items you find don’t have to be the same, as long as the idea is the same.   DIY Easter Decorating Ideas – Using Candy! What do you need for a DIY Easter decoration? Simply arrange the candy inside of the jar as you see fit and add elements to the top, side and middle!  Firstly, we used a ceramic bunny in the tall cylindrical vase. To create a carrot appearance add some orange beans first then add some green ones, next pop one of the ceramic bunnies next to it to add to scene! Springtime Flower Pop Pillow just in time for Mother’s Day https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/springtime-flower-pop-pillow-just-in-time-for-mothers-day/ Tue, 21 Apr 2020 23:49:22 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=938 The sun is shining, the snow is melting, the birds are singing and Mother’s Day is approaching. This year skip the bouquet and give flowers that will last. With bright, poppy colours this pillow inspires feelings of happiness and joy. Pro tip: you could also use a ready made pillow cover instead of making one if you have one on hand. A simple design of a few felt flowers with yarn stems – we fell in love with this sweet pillow and we hope you – and your mom – will too! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Fabric for the pillow casing Felt in four colours Green yarn Decorative felt balls (or pom poms) Large eyed needle (like a darning or embroidery needle) Scissors Optional: Fabric Glue Sewing Machine Needle and thread Measure your fabric for the pillow casing. Be sure to leave room – at least 1/2″ all the way around – for a seam allowance. Stitch three sides closed with the forth left open enough that you can slip your pillow inside. Cut flowers out of the coloured felts. We made three different sizes in various shapes. You’ll need about twenty flowers to make your pillow. Arrange your cut flowers on the pillow case. When you like how it looks, start attaching the flowers with the method you have chosen, either put a couple of stitches in the centre of each flower, or a dab of fabric glue.  If you are sewing, make sure to secure your flowers with pins so you don’t lose your design. Work your away along the pillow until all the flowers are attached. Next, take the green yarn and thread a length onto the large eyed needle. Tie a knot in the end of the thread and start stitching the flowers stems starting from the inside of the casing. Tie another knot in the in the thread inside the casing to secure the flower stem. Sew stems for all the flowers. Insert your filling into the casing and stitch up the remaining opening. Happy Crafting! Made this for Mum last year? Certainly try a personalized Mason Jar filled with her favourite things or some pressed flowers picked by little hands.

Cinco De Mayo Welcome Sign https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/cinco-de-mayo-welcome-sign/ Mon, 20 Apr 2020 23:02:11 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=910 Cinco De Mayo is coming up… are you ready for the fiestas? We are! Cinco De Mayo does, of course, hold significance as the day the Mexican army conquered the French in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla, a surprise victory for an the underdog forces. Today this awesome holiday is becoming more and more popular throughout North America and we, for one, love the bright colours, amazing food and good times that go hand in hand with this holiday. Our Cinco De Mayo Welcome Sign is the perfect start to planning your May fiesta and, as a plus, it’s easy to make, but, fair warning, does take some time for drying paint. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: A wood plank or tray Acrylic paint in various colours Paint brush Painters or masking tape Wood letters Hot glue gun or wood glue Paint the coloured lines on the board. Use the painters tape to edge out the lines. Continue adding stripes of paint in a rainbow of colours until the board is covered. Be sure to let the paint dry between colours, if you move too fast the colours will bleed or you’ll remove layers when you peel up the painters tape. Paint, dry and then attach the letters to the board. A hot glue gun or wood glue would both work for this. Alternatively, you could also use a stencil to paint the letters over the stripes or use adhesive vinyl letters if you can’t find wood letters that will work for you. Hang on the wall, or lean on table, to welcome your guests to the party. We hope you and your family have a wonderful Cinco De Mayo! May it be full of laughter, happiness and of course great food and drinks. Happy Crafting! If you need more party ideas then certainly out our Fiesta Papel Picado Decorations!

Colourful Tissue Paper Jewelry Box for Mother’s Day https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/colourful-tissue-paper-jewelry-box/ Sun, 19 Apr 2020 23:58:32 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=862 Our Mom’s jewelry box is where she keep all the trinkets and jewelry (although jewelry very loosely describes some of the pieces in there, lol) we have given her over the years. But like most mom’s, from macaroni bracelets to Plaster of Paris charms– she kept them all. And now with Christine’s little crew creating new treasures for Nanny, a new stash box is right on the money for our amazing mother.  Disclosure: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. There may be a small commission made by our recommendations, and/or link to products or services mentioned on this website. Your purchase will help us continue to bring you amazing content, step-by-steps and product reviews. How to Make a Jewelry Box for Mother’s Day What you’ll need: Raw wood box Tissue paper Mod Podge glue Foam brush Acrylic paint Paint brush Hair rollers Paint the entire box white as a base layer. Cover the lower half of the box with a layer of Mod Podge, and then work on one side at a time as the glue tends to dry fairly quickly. When one side is covered , lay a strip of tissue paper and smooth down and then cover the tissue with another layer of Mod Podge to seal. Fold the edges of the tissue paper under the box and glue down to get clean edges. Use a very sharp knife to cut the tissue paper away from the clasp otherwise the paper could tear. Repeat the same steps on the top of the box, until it is covering the lid completely.  Pull the metal wire from inside the hair curlers and cut to fit tightly inside the box. Push the hair curlers into the jewelry box, pushing them against each other to create a tight fit. We added an open section for larger pieces by gluing a piece on wood to the sides and bottom of the box. We hope that you and your mom have a great day together and remember… life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother. Happy Crafting!
