You can use construction paper for this craft or coloured printing paper, save your card stock for another day! We used Tru-Ray Construction Paper that is 9in x 12in. You will need to cut the sheets into squares, then you’re off to the races!

Easy DIY Canada Day Paper Garland

What you’ll need:

• Red and white paper
• Tape
• Scissors

Firstly, cut the paper into squares – our are 8.5in x 8.5in. You will need about 24 white and 24 red squares.

Secondly, begin to fold all the papers, accordion style.

Once all the papers are folded, fold the accordion in half to make a fan. Secure it with tape.

Next, tape the fans together, alternating red and white and top to bottom.

Once all of the fans are attached you can easily hang it from the patio, living room or above the table for an amazing show of red and white! This craft is sure to to make your Canada Day BBQ perfectly festive.

What do you need to make a Windsock Kids Craft?

• Red and white paper streamers
• Red foam board
• White toilet paper rolls
• Red markers or paint
• Red glitter
• Small bowl
• Stickers *optional
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun with glue sticks

How do you make a Fun Rocket Windsock?

• Firstly, decorate the toilet paper rolls with paints, markers, stamps and glitter! Set aside to dry, if needed.
• While the paper rolls are drying, cut the red foam board into a circle, using a small bowl to trace.
• Make a cut to the centre of the circle, then fold the circle onto itself to form a cone, using a hot glue gun, glue the edges together.
• Glue the cone onto the top of the paper towel roll.
• Cut 3 of each colour, approx. 2′ long pieces of red and white paper streamers
• Glue the streamers to the bottom of the paper roll

Step by Step – How to make a windsock kids craft

Firstly, decorate the white paper roll with stickers, glitter and designs. Create fireworks or happy faces!

This craft can get messy, which means triple the fun!!

Secondly, create the rocket top. Using the red foam and a small bowl, trace a circle onto the foam. Cut the circle out, then make a single cut to the middle of the circle.

Fold the circle onto itself to form a cone. Glue it together to secure.

Next, glue the top of the paper roll and attach the cone.

Cut the paper streamer into lengths, about 24 inches each. Three reds and three white per paper tube.

Fold the one end of each length and glue inside of the paper roll, alternating red and white.

Voila!! Your rocket windsock is finished!! These windsocks are not only fun to create, the fun continues when playing with them. Bring them to your Canada Day celebration for hours of fun.

Is a white chocolate brownie the same as a blondie, you ask? Nope. Blondies don’t have white chocolate as the base. Making white chocolate brownies is pretty much the same as baking a batch of chocolate brownies. It’s a delicious experiment to get the chewiest texture and the sweetest flavour. Let’s get baking!

What you’ll need:

• Recipe ingredients
• Mixing bowl
• Parchment paper
• Baking pan
• Spoon or spatula

Melt the chocolate and butter together in a saucepan over low heat. Be sure to stir constantly so the chocolate doesn’t melt.

Add the sugar, eggs and almond extract to the melted butter mix and combine well.

Gradually sift in the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.

Add some red sprinkles, bake, cool and enjoy!

Canada will soon be celebrating their upcoming national holiday and tables will be filled with sweets and desserts. So today we're bringing you the red and treat of White Chocolate Canada Day Brownies for a perfect July 1st delicacy.

Ingredients

• 1 cup Unsalted butter
• 6 oz White Chocolate
• 1½ cups Granulated sugar
• 3 Eggs At room temperature
• 1½ tsp Almond extract
• 1½ cups Flour
• ½ tsp Salt
• ½ cup Red sprinkles

Instructions

• Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the finished brownies out.
• In a pot, combine the butter and white chocolate. Melt over low heat, stirring constantly.
• Add the sugar until completely combined, and then whisk in the eggs and almond extract.
• Gradually add in the flour and then salt, stirring until smooth.
• Fold in the red sprinkles until combined.
• Spread evenly into prepared pan.
• Bake for 30 minutes, covering loosely with aluminum foil at the 15 minute mark.
• Remove from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.

Materials for this craft can be found at your local craft store – there should be some themed stencils in stock right about now, but if not you can always free hand your design like we did!  This craft is great because, like many of our projects, it doesn’t take long to finish.  

Easy DIY Canada Day Wooden Welcome Sign

What You’ll Need:

• Hanging wood plaque
• Red Paint
• White Paint 
• Paint Brushes
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Stencils (optional)
• Glitter (optional)

Firstly, using the ruler and pencil, measure and mark the wood plaque, dividing it into four equal parts. Be careful to not press too hard with the pencil as it can leave marks in soft wood. Once divided, paint the two outside portions, leaving the middle to create the iconic maple leaf. Set aside to dry.

Secondly, draw your maple leaf in the middle of your plank, use the ruler to measure a square in the centre of the plaque; draw your leaf inside and then paint the it red.  If using a stencil, use painters tape to secure the stencil and then gently dab the paint inside of the stencil to create the leaf.  Set aside to dry.

Finally, pencil in, or stencil your lettering. Once you’re happy with the lettering go ahead and paint it using white paint.  Again, set it aside to dry. Add some sparkles before the paint dries if you want!

One thing we love about this cake is it’s light and won’t weigh you down like some chocolate cakes. Which makes it perfect for a warm Canada Day. This red and white chocolate dessert works with fruits and berries too. Add some on the side or along the roll but be sure to stick with red ones! To add some extra festive fun, try adding a few sparklers to make everyone smile! 

To make this cake red we needed to add food colouring. We weren’t sure if the cake batter would be too runny by adding more liquid, so instead of using liquid food colouring, we used gel instead.  The gel will be more expensive but its worth the money because it keeps the batter thicker and it lasts longer.    

The icing is probably the best part of this roll and it’s what keeps the cake light, because it’s made primarily of whipped topping! It’s whipped with white chocolate giving it a light and rich taste. Another reason this recipe would be great with fruits and berries!

Ingredients

For the cake

• 5 eggs eggs  separated
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup all purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 3/4 white chocolate chips
• 1-2 drops red food colouring gel

For the Whipped Topping

• 2 cups whipped topping
• 1 cup white chocolate chips melted

Instructions

For the cake

• Preheat oven to 350 F.  
• Prepare a 17 x 14 inch pan by greasing and applying a sheet of waxed paper.
• Beat the egg yolks with 1/2 cup of the sugar until it is thickened.
• In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks are formed.  
• Add the remaining sugar and beat until stiff.
• In another bowl mix the flour and baking powder.
• Fold the egg yolks and the flour/baking powder mixture alternately into the beaten eggs.
• When well blended, add some red food colouring to the batter.  If using a gel, use a toothpick to transfer the colour.
• Spread the batter onto the prepared pan. Sprinkle with white chocolate chips.
• Bake for about 15-20 minutes.
• Once baked, turn the cake onto a clean tea towel, dusted lightly with sugar so it doesn’t stick. Remove the waxed paper and let it cool.

Whipped Topping

• Melt the white chocolate chips and mix the them into the cool whip gradually until well blended.
• When the cake has cooled spread half of the whipped icing over the cake and roll it.
• Place the rolled cake onto a serving dish and cover it with remaining whipped icing.
• Spread any remaining white chocolate chips on top, or use festive sprinkles.

What You’ll Need:

• Six 4” square wood plaques
• Three 2.5” wood letter H’s in white
• Three 2.5” wood letter O’s in white
• Red and white patterned ribbon
• Red paint
• Paintbrush
• Scissors
• Glue

How to make your own Wooden Christmas Banner:

Paint all of the wood squares with the red paint and then let dry.

Glue the red squares to a length of the ribbon (leave the ribbon attached to the spool during this step). Use a measuring tape or ruler to make sure the squares are evenly spread, we spaced them 2” apart.

Attach the letters to the squares to spell HO HO HO.

Finally, cut the ribbon from the spool at a length of 12” from the top square. Fold the ribbon back on itself and then glue the cut end to the back of the top square to create a loop to hang the banner with.

What You’ll Need:

• A deck of playing cards (or two, one deck of cards will make a 60” banner)
• Six or more red, white and pink ribbons in different patterns and thicknesses
• A hole punch

How to make your own Sweet Heart Cards Garland:

Choose which ribbon you are using as the ‘string’ for your garland and then cut a 60″ length from that spool.

Punch two holes in the opposite top corners of each of the heart cards.

Thread each card onto the ‘string’ of the garland and then continue until all of the cards are on the garland, leaving about 1” between the cards.

Cut lengths about 6” long from the other ribbons.  In between each of the cards strung on the garland, tie three lengths of ribbon in a knot. Repeat this step for the entire length of the garland.

What You Need:

• Red Felt
• White Felt
• Scissors
• Iron on fabric adhesive (Heat Bond or Fusible Interfacing)
• Iron
• Red Yarn
• Large eye needle
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Red patterned fabric or felt

How to make your own Valentine’s Day Love Banner Table Runner:

Cut the red felt to 18” wide by the length of your dining table plus an overhang on each end. Cut the white felt to two inches shorter and thinner than the red felt length. Use the iron on adhesive to attach the white felt to the red felt by following the directions on the package.

Cut four 4” wide by 6” tall triangles out of your red felt.

Trace and cut out a heart and white letters, either using a stencil or free hand, with the letters measuring 2.5” by 1.5”.

Make a slightly smaller heart shape from patterned red fabric or felt. Use fabric adhesive to attach the patterned heart to the white heart and then attach the completed heart to one of the red flags.

Use the fabric adhesive to attach the letters to the remaining triangle flags.

Attach the flags to the runner and then thread the wide-eyed needle with a length of red yarn to sew across each flag, threading the needle through the runner at the tip of each flag. 

Tie two small red bows and then attach the them to each end of the flags.
