Bubbly Maple Apple Cocktail https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/bubbly-maple-apple-cocktail/ Sun, 17 Sep 2023 00:38:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=3244 We’re giving cocktails an autumn upgrade – just in time for Thanksgiving! By adding apples, maple syrup, and cinnamon, we captured the flavours of fall in a glass. So easy to make – a six ingredient maple apple cocktail perfect for any fall or Thanksgiving party! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. It might seem odd to add maple syrup to a cocktail, but seriously, try it! The syrup sinks to the bottom, so when you drink with a (environmentally responsible) straw you get a delicious sweet taste which nicely complements all the tartness of the apple. Perfect. And this fall we have developed an obsession with cinnamon sticks as a garnish. Let the cinnamon soak in the cocktail while drinking and it will release spice in to the drink, changing the flavour as you go. If you’re feeling really adventurous, try lighting the end of the stick until it is smouldering – it will give another dimension by adding a smokey flavour. What You’ll Need: Apple juice Maple syrup Vodka Prosecco An apple corer A jigger or shot glass Cinnamon sticks Ice Fill your cocktail glass about halfway full with ice cubes. Pour 2oz of apple juice in to the glass, over the ice. Add 1tsp of maple syrup. Throw in 1oz of vodka, And then top it off with some prosecco. We use an apple corer to make the ring garnish. If you don’t have one, no worries! You can cut a ring using a knife – or skip the rings and add thin cut apple slices instead. The taste of fresh apple is more important than the shape. 🙂 Finish by adding a cinnamon stick garnish. Let the cinnamon sit in the cocktail, the flavour will diffuse into the drink for a fabulous spicy flavour. We really hope you and your guests love these Maple Apple Cocktails – we definitely enjoyed making them! Round out Thanksgiving this year with an apple theme and try our Baked Apples with Caramel and Brown Sugar for dessert.

Grab some paint and brushes and have the kids paint the rocks with Thanksgiving or fall in mind. It’s fun to see what they will come up with. Once the rocks are finished, set them aside to dry completely. Once the rocks have dried use the hot glue gun to glue the rocks into the centre of the frame. Then measure and cut a length of burlap ribbon to make a circle around the the rocks. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. You’ll only need three supplies, which can all be found at the dollar store – tissue paper, scissors, and a stapler. Choose fall coloured paper like oranges, golds, yellows and reds. What You’ll Need: Tissue paper Stapler Scissors To start, layer about four or five sheets of the tissue paper on top of each other. Cut the tissue paper in half lengthwise, to get two sets of long rectangles. Take one of the rectangle piles and fold it in half. Make cuts in the tissue paper along the unfolded edge – be sure not to cut all the way through the fold. Once you’ve made a fringe, unfold the tissue paper and staple the sheets in a few spots along the fold. Tightly twist the tissue paper along the fold. How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-make-a-macrame-pumpkin-cover/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 16:53:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=3203 This is an easy macrame project, perfect for beginners or experts! A great project for Thanksgiving or Halloween. See how to make your own Macrame Pumpkin Cover for your table, foyer, mantel or porch. This pumpkin cover is perfect for false pumpkins or real ones. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. We recently shared our Macrame Plant Hanger Tutorial and we loved it so much we decided to create a pattern for Halloween or Thanksgiving! It can work for either occasion. This easy macrame pattern is guaranteed to get you hooked on this classic art form. This project is very simple and totally fun. The best part is you can get all the materials at your local dollar store. You can use a foam pumpkin or real – then all you need is some strong cotton yarn or thin cord.  A glue gun and scissors are also needed. This craft does take some time to finish but once you get a good flow going, your knots will be done in no time. What do you need to make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover? Cotton yarn or cord Foam or real pumpkin Hot glue gun with glue sticks Scissors How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover – Macrame Pumpkin Wrap Firstly, cut a long single piece of string – the length will depend on the size of your pumpkin.  You basically need it to go around the top of your pumpkin stump. This will act as the centre “loop”. Secondly, cut several long lengths of string. Be sure to cut them long, making the knots will take up some of the length. We cut ours to about 36 inches long. Double each strand. Attach the long lengths of string to the original length of string (the one that will become the centre loop). A simple loop around is all that is needed to being the macrame. Once all of the strings are looped around, tie the original length together to form the loop.   Lay your circle on the table and begin making your square knots. We will use this simple knot for the whole cover.  You may find it easier to work on the table or maybe directly on the pumpkin – do whatever feels best for you. Begin by taking two of the looped strings and splitting them into four equal parts, two strings per group. Cross the far left strings over the middle two and under the far right. Then, bring the far right up under the middle two strings and through the hole created by the first step. Gently pull the strings together to form a knot. See the picture for a visual step by step. Repeat this step across the entire loop, then again until there are about three layers of knots. You’re Almost Finished Your New Macrame Pumpkin Cover! This craft looks best if the knots cover at least half of the pumpkin and the tassels reach the table top. When there are enough macrame knots tie the ends off using a simple knot. Cut the extra string off. Finally, separate the tassels to make them ‘puff’. Crafters Tip: You can use your hot glue gun to attach the macrame pattern to the top of your foam/real pumpkin. This will keep it secure to the pumpkin, so it won’t slide around. We hope you liked this How to Make a Macrame Pumpkin Cover – Macrame Beginner Knot tutorial.

How to Decorate Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-decorate-pumpkin-patch-cupcakes/ Sat, 12 Aug 2023 04:00:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=3370 If you’re looking to make an adorable cupcake for fall, our little Pumpkin Patch is perfect for you. Fall is definitely dominated by all things pumpkin spice, and why wouldn’t it be! So we’ve included a link to our Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes to get you started because to decorate a cupcake we’ll need – a cupcake. Luckily if you are decorating for those who aren’t a fan of spicy flavours these buttercream treats will work on any type of cake. There are super simple cupcakes to decorate – we’ll show you how! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need: Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes Chocolate icing Chocolate sprinkles Buttercream icing – medium consistency (we’ve included our recipe at the bottom of the post) Gel food coloring – orange and green Piping bags (2) Leaf piping tip Large circle piping tip (size 2A) Pretzel sticks Let’s Decorate Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes! Use a spatula to ice the tops of the cupcakes with chocolate icing. We used a store bought pre-made icing, but if you have time, you could make your own. We like this recipe from Lyne at Ottawa Mommy Club. Pour a generous amount of dirt (otherwise known as chocolate sprinkles!) to cover the chocolate icing. Add the pumpkins. Use a large circle icing tip for this. Apply consistent pressure to the piping bag. As the icing begins to build up, move the tip up, never losing contact with the icing. Stop squeezing when you are happy with the size of the pumpkin, and then lift the tip up and away from the ball. Add one or two smaller pumpkins to the patch. Break some pretzel stick stems and then add them to the pumpkins. Use green icing to pipe leaves onto the pumpkins. To make the leaves squeeze the piping bag tightly at the base of the leaf, and thereleasing the pressure as you pull up and away. Stop squeezing completely and then pull the tip away. TIP: If your leaves are cracking and don’t want to stick to the pumpkins, your icing may be too stiff, try adding 1tsp of water or milk at a time until you have a medium consistency icing. If your leaves fall flat, your icing may be too soft and you may want to add a bit of icing sugar so it will stiffen a little. Finally, add more leaves at the base of the pumpkins to fill out the patch. We hope you had as much fun decorating these cupcakes as we did! If you need some pumpkin decor to match your dessert – certainly try making our Wine Cork Pumpkin – it’s easy elegance wrapped in DIY.

Stunning Toddler Poppy Art https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/stunning-toddler-poppy-art/ https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/stunning-toddler-poppy-art/#respond Fri, 11 Nov 2022 05:44:35 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=7194 For November 11th, we decided to make some stunning toddler poppy art! This project features a beautiful coffee filter poppy highlighted by a gray, abstract background. We enlisted the help of our youngest Sugarplum, and Baby M not only had a ton of fun expressing his creativity, he practiced his fine motor skills and learned about different mediums and textures. We started with markers on coffee filters and then moved to paint on canvas, using brushes and fingers (and some toes!). The poppies are easy to make, and the whole project takes only a few basic craft materials. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need to Make Your Own Toddler Poppy Art Two coffee filters Red, orange and yellow water-based markers Spray bottle with water Scissors Glue Canvas Black, light and dark gray paint Paint brush Black pom pom To begin, be sure to protect your floor or table by putting down a vinyl tablecloth or shower curtain. Then let your little one go wild with some water based markers – scribbling on the coffee filters in any way that suits. Next – we did this without Baby M’s help, but older kids will love this step – use a spray bottle with water to cover the coffee filter. You don’t need too much water here, a little goes a long way. Set the coffee filter aside to dry. Now it’s time for paint! Set out the paints and brushes and see what beautiful abstract pattern your little one creates. Let the canvas dry while moving back to the coffee filter. Cut the dried coffee filter into petals of different sizes. You should get 8-10 petals from two coffee filters. Add some glue to the tip of each petal – only use a small amount of glue as it can seep through the coffee filter if applies too thickly. And then glue the petals onto the canvas, off centered a bit and about one third of the way up. Paint a black stem and leaf under the poppy. Paint a black circle in the middle of the poppy, And then glue a pom pom on the black circle. We hope you enjoy your Stunning Toddler Poopy Art as much as we do! Toddler Turkey Art – Fun and Learning https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/toddler-turkey-art-fun-and-learning/ https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/toddler-turkey-art-fun-and-learning/#respond Sun, 06 Nov 2022 04:29:00 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=7149 It’s turkey time! This super easy Toddler Turkey Art is a project that your little will love. Once you prepare the canvas for them, they can paint and create all by themselves. And you will have a beautiful keepsake to hang every Thanksgiving. Baby M, who helped us out, is 16M – and he loved it so much! He loved getting his hands messy and really loved using the small sponge brush. He is SO proud of the final result – it’s hanging in Victoria’s home and Baby M points at it everyday – he is so proud of himself and his art! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need to make our Toddler Turkey Art: A canvas – we used an 8 x 10 Painter’s tape Water based acrylic paints – we used red, yellow, orange, gold and brown Paper in white and yellow Sharpie Sealer Sponge brush or paint brush Paper plate or reusable paint palette Ruler Pencil Craft knife Begin by lightly drawing out a semi-circle in the center of the canvas – this will be the turkey’s head. Next, use a ruler to mark radiating lines out from the center of the canvas to the outer edge. Cover the turkey’s head with painters tape, trimming the curved edge with a sharp craft knife. Cut the painters tape into thin stripes and then add the stripes to the canvas where the pencil lines were drawn. Add more thin stripes of painters tape opposite to the pencil lines – creating a grid like pattern. Uneven lines are perfectly okay! Create and paint! Lay out paint on a plate and then let your little go wild. Baby M even got his feet involved! Let the paint fully dry and then pull the tape off of the canvas. Use some brown paint to colour in the turkey’s head. Once this is dry, glue some eyes and a beak cut out from paper (add pupils with a sharpie) onto the turkey’s head. Cover the canvas with a sealer (like Mod Podge) and then your little masterpiece is done! We hope you and your littles love our Toddler Turkey Art! This craft is a ton of fun! All of the kids loved putting this together. They each had their own thoughts and ideas. And what’s better? The materials are all easily found at the dollar store, or right at home already! This paper bag kids craft perfect for all ages. We did our craft with three kids, ages 3-7, and it was loved by each of them. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need: Brown paper bag Paper towel roll Tissue paper in red and yellow Child friendly paint in green, orange, red, yellow and brown Paint brushes Scissors Crafting glue 12 x 12 white scrapbook paper Popsicle sticks (optional for swing) String or yarn (optional for swing) Hot glue gun with glue sticks (if making a swing) Leaf template found HERE Paper Bag Tree Kids Craft for Thanksgiving Firstly, print out the leaf template and trace it onto a paper bag and some coloured tissue paper. Each tree needs about 15-20 leaves. Secondly, the tree trunk needs to be painted, using the brown coloured paint and then set aside. While the tree trunks are drying, paint the “ground”. Using the 12×12 scrapbook paper, ask your child to paint the ground underneath the trees. This is fun to watch as most children will come up with their own way of doing it. We suggested using finger tips to make “fallen leaves” but only one of the three wanted to paint their picture that way! While the kids are painting their ground scene, begin cutting the tree trunk. Make four cuts in the bottom of the paper towel roll, then pull the cut pieces up. Add some crafting glue to the bottom of the cut pieces then place it onto the painted scrapbook paper. Next, make more cuts on the top of the tree trunk – thinner ones this time to create branches. Fold them down gently. Using the crafting glue, glue the leaves to the tree branches. *Optional* add a swing to the fall paper bag tree! This part will need to be done by the adults. What’s an awesome backyard tree without a swing?? Cut a 2 inch piece from the popsicle stick using scissors. Add two pieces of string to the each side, securing with a hot glue gun. Tie a knot in to bring the strings together and then glue gun the knot to a lower “tree branch” on the paper towel tree.
