This felt shamrock is so easy to make, you can even get your kids to make their own! You can easily add these to a headband, hair clip or backpack for an easy and fun St. Patrick’s Day accessory.

We also used this craft to make a beautiful wreath for the front door this March 17th.

How to Make a Simple Felt Shamrock by Champagne and Sugarplums

Why do we call this a shamrock and not a clover? A clover must have three leaves to be considered a shamrock. If we added one more leaf, it would not be considered a shamrock! We can say all shamrocks are clovers…but not all clovers are shamrocks. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t add an extra leaf to this felt craft. If you want to sport a little luck this March 17th, simply add another leaf.

What do you need to make a How to Make a Simple Felt Shamrock?

  • FREE printable
  • Green felt in 2-4 shades
  • Green embroidery thread
  • A needle (kid friendly if you have little ones)
  • Hot glue gun with glue
  • Shamrock sequin
  • Pin, hair clip or headband or wreath *optional*

How do I make an easy Felt Shamrock?

  • Print and cut out our FREE leaf template
  • Place the large leaf template on top of some felt
  • Place the small leaf template on top of a different colour of felt (you can pin these down or trace around them to make it easier to cut out)
  • Cut out three large and three small leaves (or four if you prefer to make a lucky clover!)
  • Fold one of the leaf pieces in half lengthwise. Next, pass the threaded embroidery needle through the bottom of the leaf.
  • Continue to add all the leaves, similarly, until they are all on the needle.
  • Then, pull the needle through the leaves, and tie the tails tightly into a knot, gathering each leaf tightly as you work.
  • Next, hot glue the shamrock to the pin, hair clip or headband
  • OR add your shamrocks to a beautiful front door wreath!

Which happens to be our favourite description when it comes to holiday crafting. And there is something so sweet about clovers, right? Our heritage isn’t Irish, but it’s hard to resist joining in the celebration and using that adorable clover punch that’s been waiting in the punch collection. So, head on over to your go-to dollar store and pick up some glitter paper, a canvas and some twine. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need: Glitter (or plain) paper in green and gold Clover punch Heart punch Twine Stapler Mini Clothespins Canvas or wood board Let’s make our St. Patrick’s Day Clover Canvas! To begin, punch out (you can cut them out if you don’t have a punch) 9 shamrocks from the green paper. You can always make more or less clover, depending on the look you want and the size of your canvas. Punch or cut out one heart from the gold paper. Staple one end of the twine to the back of the canvas, close to the top. Wrap the twine around the front and then staple the other end to the back of the canvas, to the opposite side. Repeat this step three or four more times. Use the mini clothespins to clip the clover onto the twine. We spaced our clover out evenly and placed them all in the same direction, but you could also switch things up hang them crooked, in different directions or bunched together! There’s no wrong way to finish this St. Patrick’s Day Clover Canvas. Remember to add the gold heart! We hope you have a super fun St. Patrick’s Day, happy crafting! How To Make Yarn Wrapped Green Balls https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-make-yarn-wrapped-green-balls/ https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-make-yarn-wrapped-green-balls/#respond Thu, 04 Mar 2021 20:09:24 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=5875 Our Mom is big into knitting and crocheting. She’s amazing at both, and our babies have definitely benefited! Over the years, she’s made some really beautiful handmade pieces for us – like blankets, hats, booties, and sweaters that we really treasure. So, using Mum’s favourite hobby as inspiration, (though neither of us ever leant how to knit) we created some Lucky Green Balls for this St. Patrick’s Day. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. These little decorations are super fun, and surprisingly soothing, to make. There are a few different ways to wrap yarn, and they’re all easy! We like the look of the circular method we used for our balls. But, all the methods really work great, plus they are so, so easy and really inexpensive to put together! What you’ll need: Styrofoam balls (5 or more, depending on the size you have) Yarn Glue Scissors Optional: Pins, popsicle stick, cotton swab or paint brush Let’s Make Some Lucky Green Balls! Start with a dollop of glue on the top of one of the Styrofoam balls. This step is optional – but we found it helpful to add a pin to the yarn to hold it in place while the glue is still wet. Begin twirling the yarn tightly around itself, sticking it to the glue as you go. Try not to leave any gaps in the yarn. Add glue as you are wrapping to hold the yarn in place. Keep wrapping until the entire ball is covered and then snip the yarn off at the top circle. Wrapping the top of the ball will be a little more difficult, you will need to gently push the yarn to keep any gaps from forming as you go. Copy the same steps again with some white or cream yarn. And then again with another green yarn. This technique works equally well for both thinner and thicker yarns. To make our rainbow ball, use the exact same steps as the solid coloured balls. The difference here will be the transition between each colour. To do this, mark on the ball where you want each colour to end with a pen. Start at the top as usual, using the glue and wrapping the yarn. When you reach the first mark, cut off the yarn and glue the end to the ball. Start the next colour by layering the new colour overtop of the cut end (blue over purple in our example). Continue this technique with each colour to cover the entire ball. All done! If you need some more St. Patrick’s Day crafting ideas, check out our Rustic Rainbow Signboard and then our Shamrock Rainbow Fingerprint Painting. Happy crafting!
