So we spent one morning making some beautiful parent and child shared art – using brushes, hands, and toes. Keep reading for a full tutorial for how you and your littles can make your own Christmas canvas. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What you’ll need to make Handprint Christmas Art for Kids: Canvas Paint – gray, white, yellow, black, green, red Paint brushes Wood circle Glue Start by painting the canvas in light gray. Bigger kids can do this step themselves, but smaller hands may need your help. We painted Baby M’s canvas for him. Set the canvas aside to dry, and then paint the wooden or paper circle red. Now let your little ones get creative! Let them paint with their fingers in white and yellow paint – creating random dots all over the canvas. You may end up with more splotches than dots – but that’s perfectly ok! Add your little ones handprint to the red circle, and then let it dry. Paint a tree branch onto the canvas, and then paint many small green needles along the branch. Add black lowlights to some – but not all – of the needles, and then add some highlights. Glue the wooden circle to the canvas, underneath your branch. Paint on an ornament top, and then a string, and you’re done! A beautiful holiday keepsake you and your child created together. We hope you love your Handprint Christmas Art for Kids as much as we do! Personalized New Home Gingerbread House Ornament https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/personalized-new-home-gingerbread-house-ornament/ Mon, 11 May 2020 21:33:28 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1568 We always have so much fun putting up the Christmas tree every year. Every year we try to add a new ornament to reflect on something that happened that year.  Sometimes it’s a trip, maybe a new pet, one year was our wedding. This year, it was moving into our home, which is when we came up with this sweet gingerbread house ornament.  It’s also a great gift if you know someone that has recently moved into a new home. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Parchment Paper (wax paper or tin foil will also work) Oven Bake Clay Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter Snow-Tex Paint Silver Acrylic Paint Brown Acrylic Paint White Acrylic Paint Paint Brushes Clay Working Tool or BBQ skewer Scissors Ribbon House Key What you need to make your own Personalized Ornament: Press into the cookie cutter mould on top of the parchment paper, pushing it into all of the corners. Carefully push the clay out of the cookie cutter. Take a house key and press it firmly into the clay on one side of the house. Use a flat blade or putty knife to gently lift the key out of the clay and then make two holes in the chimney of the ornament for the ribbon to hang the ornament.  Bake in a 275 oven for 30 minutes (or follows the directions on the clay packaging). After cooling, paint the key impression in silver and then let dry. Paint the rest of the ornament brown and then add snow to the roof, chimney and ground using Snow Tex. Try dabbing the Snow Tex onto the clay rather than brush, to get a texturized snowy look. Paint the door shape around the key impression and a window beside it. Lastly, add the date above the door as the house number. Cut a length of ribbon and thread though the holes in the chimney.  Either hang your gingerbread house ornament on your tree or wrap it up to give to special someone to make this Christmas a little extra merry, happy crafting! Painted Holiday Trees – With Glitter Twinkle Lights https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/painted-holiday-trees-with-glitter-twinkle-lights/ Mon, 04 May 2020 23:00:10 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1385 Now is the time to start putting up Christmas decorations, both inside and outside the house. Of course, we feel that every year needs a new addition. Who are we kidding, it’ll be more than one new addition, lol. After all, what’s Christmas without a little DIY??  The tricky thing is deciding what to make, so we’re here to bring you inspiration. This week we’re breaking out our paints for this naturally beautiful winter scene, with glitter as the cherry on top, which shimmers and shines to create the illusion of tiny glitter twinkle lights. We know glitter can be messy, but we promise, adding it is 100% worth it. What You’ll Need: Three wood boards or canvas Acrylic paint in white, blue and light and dark green Flat tipped paint brush Pointed tip paint brush Foam brush Mod Podge or white glue White/Translucent glitter Hot glue gun and sticks Pencil Sketch out a basic outline of the trees and snow, then start by painting the snow banks in with white paint. Paint in the trees, starting with light green paint. Make a thin line as the centre of your tree and then add tree branches by tapping the flat tipped brush onto the board. Be sure to tap the brush in different directions to vary the shapes and make the trees wider at the bottoms, thinning out as you get to the top. Paint over the light green paint with dark green to add dimension to the trees. Use the same dabbing technique with the white paint to add snow. Use blue paint to add shadows under the trees. To achieve a softer look, use water to thin the blue paint a little bit. Don’t be afraid to go over the blue with some water and white paint if the blue is too dark or too strong. Add some Mod Podge or white glue with the sponge on top of the snow on the trees. Dab glitter onto the wet glue, don’t be afraid to be generous with the glitter! Using the point tip brush make dots in the background for snowflakes. The glitter twinkle lights are ready to be added to your holiday decorations or given away as a gift, happy crafting! Gilded Golden Ornament Stocking Holders for Christmas https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/gilded-golden-ornament-stocking-holders-for-christmas/ Mon, 04 May 2020 21:45:50 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1374 Today we are very excited to show you these beautiful golden ornament stocking holders. This is an oh-so-easy, elegant, trendy decoration that we guarantee you’ll love. All you’ll need is an hour of free time and a few materials to make these beautiful pieces. Let’s get started! What You’ll Need: Large plastic DIY ornament balls Gold leafing Gold leaf adhesive Sponge brush Spray paint E6000 adhesive Stocking holder base (we picked up some plain ones from a dollar store) Spray paint the ornaments. Its easiest to paint the top, let it dry completely and then paint the bottom. Don’t worry about getting full coverage on the bottom of the ball as this will be covered with gold leafing. Remember to spray a couple of light coats, instead on one thick one, which will help avoid any dripping. Use the foam brush to cover the bottom half of the ornament with the gilding adhesive. Let the glue dry for 30-45 minutes until it is tacky but no longer wet. Apply the gold leaf small pieces at a time to cover all of the gliding adhesive smoothing the gold leaf down as you go.  Glue the ornament to the holder base with the E6000. Tip: Since E6000 takes some time to set, you can try adding a small bit of hot glue to hold the ball in place until the silicone dries.  We hope these gilded ornament stocking holders brighten your holidays. Happy Crafting! For another DIY Christmas ornament check out our Unique Wedding Invitation Ornament. PRETTY PEARL SNOWFLAKE PILLOW COVER https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/pretty-pearl-snowflake-pillow-cover/ Mon, 04 May 2020 20:28:14 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1350 We love decorating with holiday pillows. They provide an easy way to add colour and a festive feel to any room. A clever idea is to make a pillow cover instead of a stuffed pillow, which means it can slip it over an existing couch throw for the season and then remove it after. It also makes for easier storage throughout the rest of the year and needs less supplies to make it. And our snowflake pillow cover is a perfect project to tackle while watching your favourite Christmas movie, as sewing the pearls onto the cover will take time, but it’s a simple task. What You’ll Need: Felt (a large enough square to cover your throw pillows) Decorative pearls Small gems Needle and thread Bead glue Sewing machine Cut the felt into two squares large enough to cover (with some extra space) your pillow and then sew three sides together. Cut six stripes of felt and then stitch them in pairs to the open edges, these will be closures for the finished pillow. Arrange the pearls into a design that you like and then stitch each of the pearl beads into place. Use bead glue to attach the gems in a decorative pattern. Let the glue dry and then slip your new Christmas cover over an existing throw pillow. Unique DIY Wedding Invitation Christmas Ornament https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/unique-diy-wedding-invitation-christmas-ornament/ Mon, 04 May 2020 13:12:21 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1352 We love holidays and we love weddings and it’s the best when these two events occur together! Today we are brining you a beautiful wedding invitation Christmas ornament. Make one using your own invite or create one for a friend, they make amazing, thoughtful gifts. Next time you are invited to a wedding, keep the invitation to create one of these unique DIY Christmas ornaments. Give it as gift for example, they make perfect Christmas gifts, or save it and gift it to the happy couple on their first wedding anniversary. Above all, they will be delighted to see their invite displayed in a unique way. In addition, make one using your personal invite to celebrate the memories from you special day. Unique DIY Wedding Invitation Christmas Ornament What you’ll need: Glass/Plastic Ornament Ball Wedding Invitation Thin ribbon Heart and key embellishment (optional) Pencil Scissors Ruler Crafting tip: use the same ribbon colour as the theme used at the wedding!   Firstly, using the ruler, measure and mark even lines, about half an inch wide. Use the pencil lightly to avoid making thick, heavy pencil lines. Cut along the marked lines to create strips of invite. Secondly, wrap the strips of invitation around the pencil.  Once the invite is completely wrapped around the pencil, wait a few seconds to allow the curl to take hold before letting go.  Repeat this process with all the strips.  Cut three to four inch long pieces of ribbon and curl them with the scissors. If you cannot curl using the scissors (some will fray) use the pencil in a likewise way and wrap the ribbon around it. Finally, remove the metal lid of the glass ball and add the curled strips of invite and ribbon.  But, don’t use too much ribbon, for every three pieces of invite add one piece of ribbon. You certainly don’t want too much ribbon as it will mask the sight of the invite. Replace the metal lid.  Add a ribbon loop to the top and attach the heart and key charm (optional) and it’s finished!
