DIY Christmas Candy Cane Wreath https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/diy-christmas-candy-cane-wreath/ https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/diy-christmas-candy-cane-wreath/#respond Sat, 12 Nov 2022 19:19:00 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=6664 This cute DIY Christmas Candy Cane Wreath is a great holiday craft!  It’s fairly easy to make and the supplies won’t break the bank.  Get the kids to help too!  We used a hot glue gun to attach all the candy canes together, but you could use double sided adhesive strips to make it a little more kid friendly.  Our Sugarplum helpers are still on the young side, so they happily helped pass the materials and stick the embellishments on after we placed the ‘blob’ of hot glue. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What do you need to make a DIY Christmas Candy Cane Wreath? About 28 candy canes (any flavour/colour) Hot glue gun or double sided adhesive Ribbon Some plastic snowflakes  Embellishments (we used sparkly balls) *Pro tip* Before you begin to use glue, we recommend setting up a mock wreath to see how your design will look.  Since we used 3 different types of candy canes we wanted to see how the pattern would look. Once you’re happy with the look, it will be easier to put it together.   How to make a DIY Christmas Candy Cane Wreath – Step by step tutorial Firstly, place a small amount of glue on the top and bottom of one candy cane. Continue this step until all of the candy canes are attached.  Remember to create a circle with them as you go, this should occur naturally but you may need to help it out a little. Once the circle is complete add the snowflakes using the hot glue gun.  One on each side of the wreath, this will help hold it together.   Now for the ribbon!  Weave the ribbon in and our of the candy canes, we did three on top and one under, this way more of the ribbon was exposed.  Use the hot glue gun to adhere the loose ends of the ribbon to the wreath.  Also, attach a small loop of ribbon to the top back of the wreath.  This will be used to hang it. Finally the embellishments, we used the hot glue gun once again to stick the balls onto the wreath.   We hope you loved this DIY Christmas Candy Cane Wreath as much as we do!  If you’re looking for more Christmas decor or recipes ideas, certainly check out these popular posts: Easy Sugared Cranberries Brie Bites with Mango Chutney Grinch Mini Cheesecake Recipe Christmas Kid Craft – Handprint Ideas Must Watch Christmas Movie List with Free Printable! Treat Bag Banner for Halloween https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/treat-bag-banner-for-halloween/ Tue, 13 Oct 2020 12:59:48 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=3770 This week we wanted to bring a fun and easy way to get the kids involved with prepping for Halloween excitement – in a social distancing way! This craft can be done in advance to the big night and double as a mantel decoration. This banner will also work for an indoor family fun Halloween too, if you decide to skip trick or treating this year. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. All of the materials for this craft can be found at the dollar store so not only is it easy to make, it’s inexpensive! There are plenty of choices also, different grab bag styles and you could use ribbon instead of garland. Fill the bags with peanut friendly snacks, candies as well as pencils, erasers, puzzles and more! Keep in mind…It’s best to do this craft after lunch or dinner, because the kids will definitely want to “test” the candies before they fill the bags. Treat Bag Banner for Halloween What you’ll need to make Halloween Treat Banner for a COVID Halloween Halloween grab bags Garland or ribbon Clothes pegs Candy Small toys – pencils, erasers, bouncy balls, rings etc Firstly, fill the bags with all the Halloween treats. The kids will have a ball picking what should go into each bag…and sampling the candy along the way! Secondly, once the bags are full, select the area you would like to hang the banner. If indoors, along a mantel is a great idea, or in a doorway. To keep a distance at Halloween, place the banner between two sticks on your front lawn. Add the bags to the garland with clothes pegs. This is an easy way for the kids to get their grab bags. Clothes pegs can be dropped onto the ground and replaced with another as the night goes on! We hope you and the kids loved creating this Treat Bag Banner for Halloween! Our group of kiddo’s had a blast filling the bags and seeing their banner hang as a fun Halloween decoration. Elegant Oh Holy Night Letter Tile Plaque for the Holidays https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/elegant-oh-holy-night-letter-tile-plaque-for-the-holidays/ Thu, 07 May 2020 23:28:10 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1524 Alphabet tiles make for fabulous holiday decorations and we decided try one out. We settled on ‘Oh Holy Night’ as the phrase for our letter tile plaque as spaces out nicely into a tree shape. Since we’re right in the middle of the holiday season, this DIY could make a wonderful creative, low cost and stylish gift for friends or family. We found our Christmas themed alphabet tiles at the craft store. But Scrabble game tiles will work just as well, try using a blank tile for the trees ‘trunk’. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: Wood plank Scrapbook paper A small Christmas star Wood alphabet tiles Paint brushes Foam brush Mod Podge Gold Paint Glue How to make your own Letter Tile Plaque: Use the paintbrush to paint the edge of the plaque that will not be covered by the scrapbook paper in the gold paint and then let dry. Cover the front of the plank with the Mod Podge, this will allow the scrapbook paper to stick to the plaque. Don’t use too much, thin, even coverage is best.  Place the scrapbook paper onto the plank and then press the paper down firmly, let dry. Cover the top of the paper with another layer of Mod Podge. Glue the star to the top of the plaque and the alphabet tiles underneath in the four lines to spell ‘Oh Holy Night’. The last line is a single tile for the tree ‘trunk’. Be sure to use a ruler to space out the letters, we left ½” between letters. We hope you love this elegant letter tile plaque, happy crafting!
