Prepare a muffin tin (or two, this recipe will make two dozen cupcakes easily) with liners. Make your vanilla cake batter using either a premade box mix, your favourite recipe, or we recommend this tasty creation from Amanda’s Cookin’. Spoon 3 tbsps of vanilla batter into each liner. Spoon 1/2 tbsp of pie filling into the centre of the liner, on top of the vanilla batter. Bake as your recipe directs and cool completely before decorating. TIP: Rushing the cooling step is so tempting but with this icing recipe, any heat will melt the frosting as fast as you’re piping it, so best to be patient here. 🙂 Cream Cheese Icing Combine softened butter and cream cheese in an electric mixer and beat until creamy, about two minutes. Add the almond extract and then salt, mix well. Gradually add the powdered sugar until completely combined and the icing has a medium stiff consistency. To make the stripe effect, use a paint brush to brush gel food colouring (liquid colouring will not work for this effect) in four lines running along the inside of a piping bag. Remember to add the icing tip into the bag before you paint the lines inside – it can be added after but it’s messy business. Fill the bag with icing and then start decorating! It’s best to push the first bit of icing through the tip until the colouring comes out in the right pattern. If you use the entire bag of icing and need to refill, don’t worry! The icing pattern should continue to work even after new icing has been added. Frost your cupcakes using a classic swirl. Start on the side of the cupcake and pipe three or four circles around the cupcake, each circle getting slightly smaller until you have a cone shape. Decorate with sprinkles or candy hearts and then your all done! We hope you love these sweet Cherry Cupcakes as much as we do! There is a lot of garland options available to buy but why not make your own?  Our Heart Cards Garland just needs three things – a deck of old (or new) playing cards, some ribbon and a hole punch, it couldn’t be easier! So, let’s gather the supplies and get to work! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. What You’ll Need: A deck of playing cards (or two, one deck of cards will make a 60” banner) Six or more red, white and pink ribbons in different patterns and thicknesses A hole punch How to make your own Sweet Heart Cards Garland: Choose which ribbon you are using as the ‘string’ for your garland and then cut a 60″ length from that spool. Punch two holes in the opposite top corners of each of the heart cards. Thread each card onto the ‘string’ of the garland and then continue until all of the cards are on the garland, leaving about 1” between the cards. Cut lengths about 6” long from the other ribbons.  In between each of the cards strung on the garland, tie three lengths of ribbon in a knot. Repeat this step for the entire length of the garland. Hearts and Arrows Valentine’s Day Wreath https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/yarn-felt-hearts-and-arrows-valentines-day-wreath/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 23:19:22 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1162 We love festive decor, especially festive outdoor decor! Having a festive, DIY Valentine’s Day Wreath on the front door is a special way to welcome visitors. We created this charming yarn and felt Valentine’s Day Wreath, and we are smitten with it! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, now is the perfect time to get started on this year’s lovely decorations. This wreath is easy to make, the perfect craft for a chilly day in front of the fire or when watching a movie. With minimum effort here comes maximum impact – this sweet wreath will make you and your guests feel the love! What You’ll Need: – An embroidery hoop or foam wreath base– Yarn in three colours– Felt in beige and light and dark pink– A straight-ish branch– Scissors– Hot Glue Gun– A small piece of ribbon or lace Firstly, tie the first colour of yarn around the hoop. Start wrapping the yarn around the hoop, keeping the loops tight against each other. Cover half of the hoop and then switch to the next colour. To do this, tie the two strings together and continue wrapping with tight loops, covering the tails as you go. Add as much of the accent colour as you like, we added a stripe every couple inches. Pop outside and find a neighborhood tree to lend you a branch. Clip off any twigs it may have. Cut out two matching hearts from the dark pink felt. I free-handed these hearts by folding the felt in half to make sure the heart was symmetrical, but you could also trace a wood shape, or use a stencil if you like. Glue the hearts onto the narrower end of the branch, one on top of the other to create an arrowhead. Halfway there… Repeat the heart steps, but draw half of a parallelogram instead. This will make the feathers, so glue these two pieces on the wider end of the branch. Tip: Only use glue next to the branch. Try not to get the on the edges of the ‘feathers’, it will make it easier to cut the ‘feathers’ in angled lines, about 1/4″ wide, all the way along the tail on both sides. Add a small bow on the accent yarn. This will finish the tail end nice and neatly. Loop a ribbon or some lace around the top of the wreath for hanging. If your using thin ribbon, you can simply tie the ends together to form a circle however, if you are using thicker ribbon or lace (like we did) you will need to glue the loop in place with some hot glue. Use some more glue to attach the arrow to the hoop. Then, use the same technique from earlier to cut out some different sized hearts in various colours. Attach them to the bottom of the Valentine’s Day Wreath. Your guests will LOVE coming over and knocking on your door. Happy crafting!
