Rustic Rainbow St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Signboard https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/rustic-rainbow-st-patricks-day-lucky-signboard/ Mon, 18 Jan 2021 13:42:00 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1137 It’s time to get your green on! Introduce some Irish cheer into your home during this winter. We don’t know how much winter we can take, so it’s time to bring in some colour and cheer.  Luckily, this lucky signboard might just be enough to ward off those winter blues with traditional St. Patty’s green and a subtle rainbow touch. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. We painted our plank white, so the green would stand out better than would would against the natural wood. To give depth, we painted the plank green first and then a layer of white over-top. This way, we could sand away some of the white paint to give the sign a rustic, weathered look. There are a few ways to make the letters, free-hand like we did, stencils, or a Cricut machine. Let’s get sham-rockin and let greens, golds and rainbows dominate your decorations this March. What you’ll need: Wood plaque Scrapbook paper in green patterns Mod Podge and foam brush Scissors Ruler, stencil or Cricut machine Embroidery thread in a rainbow of colours Green and white acrylic paint Sandpaper Paint your plaque green. When this has completely dried, paint over the green with white paint. Be sure to let all of the paint layers dry completely before moving onto the next steps. If you don’t, the colours will smear together. After the white paint is dry, use the sandpaper to distress the plaque by rubbing away the white paint around the edges of the plaque. Cut out your letters while the paint layers dry. Use a stencil, Cricut machine or a ruler. Maybe try adding a second layer to add depth and flare. Use Mod Podge to attach the letters to the plaque. Seal them by applying a layer of the glue over the top of the letters as well. Cut lengths of various coloured embroidery thread or twine. Tie a knot in the middle and wrap them around one edge of the plaque, securing the threads at the back. What do you think of your lucky signboard? We would love to see your take on it, please share with us in the comments. Happy crafting! For another awesome St. Patrick’s Day decoration certainly check out our Clover Chair Sashes.

Glam skulls look fun and stylish, ideal for any Halloween party, including for kids. We like to display our finished glam skull with some black lace, candles and our glam pumpkins. What You’ll Need: Skull decoration Pastel acrylic paint Paint sealer Paint brush Pastel gems Hot glue gun or other strong glue (such as E6000) Paint the entire skull in a pastel colour. This will probably take two or three coats so make sure to let the paint dry completely between layers and then finish with a clear coat to seal the paint. Glue the gems onto the skull in an abstract pattern to stretch across the face. You can either use our skull as a guide or come up with your own design. Keep gluing on gems until you are happy with your design, remember, when it comes to jewels more is more! We hope you love your glam jeweled skull as much as we do, happy crafting! Hearts and Arrows Valentine’s Day Wreath https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/yarn-felt-hearts-and-arrows-valentines-day-wreath/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 23:19:22 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1162 We love festive decor, especially festive outdoor decor! Having a festive, DIY Valentine’s Day Wreath on the front door is a special way to welcome visitors. We created this charming yarn and felt Valentine’s Day Wreath, and we are smitten with it! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, now is the perfect time to get started on this year’s lovely decorations. This wreath is easy to make, the perfect craft for a chilly day in front of the fire or when watching a movie. With minimum effort here comes maximum impact – this sweet wreath will make you and your guests feel the love! What You’ll Need: – An embroidery hoop or foam wreath base– Yarn in three colours– Felt in beige and light and dark pink– A straight-ish branch– Scissors– Hot Glue Gun– A small piece of ribbon or lace Firstly, tie the first colour of yarn around the hoop. Start wrapping the yarn around the hoop, keeping the loops tight against each other. Cover half of the hoop and then switch to the next colour. To do this, tie the two strings together and continue wrapping with tight loops, covering the tails as you go. Add as much of the accent colour as you like, we added a stripe every couple inches. Pop outside and find a neighborhood tree to lend you a branch. Clip off any twigs it may have. Cut out two matching hearts from the dark pink felt. I free-handed these hearts by folding the felt in half to make sure the heart was symmetrical, but you could also trace a wood shape, or use a stencil if you like. Glue the hearts onto the narrower end of the branch, one on top of the other to create an arrowhead. Halfway there… Repeat the heart steps, but draw half of a parallelogram instead. This will make the feathers, so glue these two pieces on the wider end of the branch. Tip: Only use glue next to the branch. Try not to get the on the edges of the ‘feathers’, it will make it easier to cut the ‘feathers’ in angled lines, about 1/4″ wide, all the way along the tail on both sides. Add a small bow on the accent yarn. This will finish the tail end nice and neatly. Loop a ribbon or some lace around the top of the wreath for hanging. If your using thin ribbon, you can simply tie the ends together to form a circle however, if you are using thicker ribbon or lace (like we did) you will need to glue the loop in place with some hot glue. Use some more glue to attach the arrow to the hoop. Then, use the same technique from earlier to cut out some different sized hearts in various colours. Attach them to the bottom of the Valentine’s Day Wreath. Your guests will LOVE coming over and knocking on your door. Happy crafting! For another great Valentine’s Day project certainly check out our Easy Valentine’s Day puzzle heart.

How to Make a Pretty Pastel Mini Egg Easter Topiary https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/how-to-make-a-pretty-pastel-mini-egg-easter-topiary/ Mon, 27 Apr 2020 21:33:58 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1099 Spring has officially arrived and we couldn’t be happier! Spring brings new crafts, new recipes, new holidays and Easter. We’re getting a head start this year by making this pretty pastel mini eggs topiary. Being made with mini eggs, its a treat for your eyes and your sweet-tooth. We snuck more than one mini egg while putting this project together! Disclosure: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. There may be a small commission made by our recommendations, and/or link to products or services mentioned on this website. Your purchase will help us continue to bring you amazing content, step-by-steps and product reviews. What you’ll need: Small clay pot Acrylic paint Paint brush Small Styrofoam ball Paper straw Easter ribbon Hot glue gun and sticks A little bit of Spanish moss Floral foam Utility or craft knife A few bags of mini eggs Dry-brush the acrylic paint onto your clay pot. To get this effect, dip a small amount of paint onto your brush and then dab off most of that paint onto a paper towel before using small, quick brushstrokes onto the clay pot. Using the knife, cut your floral foam down to fit inside the clay pot. It’s good if the foam is slightly larger than the pot so that when you push it in it fits snugly inside. Then push the paper straw into the Styrofoam ball to form the topiary base. Start gluing the mini eggs onto the Styrofoam ball and continue until you cover the entire ball.  Put the hot glue onto the eggs instead of the foam so the foam doesn’t melt. Once all the eggs are attached, push the paper straw into the floral foam that inside the clay pot. Finally, cut a piece of ribbon and tie it around the paper straw to complete your Mini Egg topiary. Make your holiday more festive with these adorable little critter cups. A sweet way to spread Easter cheer to any room in your house, party or dinner table. These adorable chick and bunny critter cups make perfect little Easter gifts too! Better make them quick before they disappear 🙂 This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? What you’ll need: Glue gun Glue sticks Two small glass jars Scissors Painters tape Small piece of orange felt Little black gems Tiny pink pom pom Fine tip paintbrush Acrylic paints in Yellow, White and Black For this design, I wanted to avoid painting the lip of the jar. To do the same, take the painter’s tape and cover the top of the jar where you don’t want any paint to be. Additionally, you may have to cut slits in the tape to get it to fold over the top and seal tightly. Pour a big dollop of the yellow paint in one jar. Turn the jar around in your hands to spread the paint around. Tapping the jar against your palm helps to get the paint to move. Be patient, it may seem like the paint isn’t moving but it will. Keep turning and tapping the jar until all of the glass is covered in paint. When you’re happy with the coverage, turn the jar over onto a piece of paper towel and leave it to dry. Drying may take some time depending on how thick the paint is. Repeat the previous step with the second jar and the white paint. The Absolute Cutest Little Easter Critter Cups Ever Cut a small triangle out of the orange felt, which will be the ducks beak. Use hot glue to attach your beak to the centre of the yellow jar and then use the black gems as eyes and attach them with the hot glue on either side of the beak to complete the ducks face. On the white jar, use the black paint to make whiskers in the centre of the jar by painting an X and then add lines out the side to make three whiskers on each side. Add a pink pom pom nose with the hot glue and black gems for the bunny’s eyes. Happy Crafting!
