There’s still a few weeks of hot summer weather to go, but sweater weather is coming and it’s never too early to start crafting for Fall. This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. You’ll only need three supplies, which can all be found at the dollar store – tissue paper, scissors, and a stapler. Choose fall coloured paper like oranges, golds, yellows and reds. What You’ll Need: Tissue paper Stapler Scissors To start, layer about four or five sheets of the tissue paper on top of each other. Cut the tissue paper in half lengthwise, to get two sets of long rectangles. Take one of the rectangle piles and fold it in half. Make cuts in the tissue paper along the unfolded edge – be sure not to cut all the way through the fold. Once you’ve made a fringe, unfold the tissue paper and staple the sheets in a few spots along the fold. Tightly twist the tissue paper along the fold. Repeat and then staple strips together to make a long garland or two. How perfect is this Tissue Paper Garland for Thanksgiving? We made a few of then and displayed some on a hutch, and used some as a centerpiece. It looks great anywhere you use it! Looking for more Thanksgiving inspiration? Colourful Tissue Paper Jewelry Box for Mother’s Day https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/colourful-tissue-paper-jewelry-box/ Sun, 19 Apr 2020 23:58:32 +0000 https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/?p=862 Our Mom’s jewelry box is where she keep all the trinkets and jewelry (although jewelry very loosely describes some of the pieces in there, lol) we have given her over the years. But like most mom’s, from macaroni bracelets to Plaster of Paris charms– she kept them all. And now with Christine’s little crew creating new treasures for Nanny, a new stash box is right on the money for our amazing mother.  Disclosure: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. There may be a small commission made by our recommendations, and/or link to products or services mentioned on this website. Your purchase will help us continue to bring you amazing content, step-by-steps and product reviews. How to Make a Jewelry Box for Mother’s Day What you’ll need: Raw wood box Tissue paper Mod Podge glue Foam brush Acrylic paint Paint brush Hair rollers Paint the entire box white as a base layer. Cover the lower half of the box with a layer of Mod Podge, and then work on one side at a time as the glue tends to dry fairly quickly. When one side is covered , lay a strip of tissue paper and smooth down and then cover the tissue with another layer of Mod Podge to seal. Fold the edges of the tissue paper under the box and glue down to get clean edges. Use a very sharp knife to cut the tissue paper away from the clasp otherwise the paper could tear. Repeat the same steps on the top of the box, until it is covering the lid completely.  Pull the metal wire from inside the hair curlers and cut to fit tightly inside the box. Push the hair curlers into the jewelry box, pushing them against each other to create a tight fit. We added an open section for larger pieces by gluing a piece on wood to the sides and bottom of the box. We hope that you and your mom have a great day together and remember… life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother. Happy Crafting!
