What do I need to make an Easy Desk Top Organizer?

• Wooden tray
• Wrapping paper
• Variety of cardboard boxes and paper rolls
• Spray glue
• Spray paint (or acrylic)
• Scissors

How do I make an Easy Teacher’s Desk Top Organizer?

• Paint the wooden tray.
• Arrange the boxes in the tray to give you an idea of where they will be.
• Adhere wrapping paper to the cardboard boxes and rolls using the spray on glue.
• Place in the wooden tray!

How to – Photo Tutorial

Before covering the boxes and painting the tray, do a mock up of how you want them to look and fit. Remember to have taller boxes near the back so you can see smaller items in the front!

Paint the wooden tray, this will work as the base of the organizer. We used spray paint, but acrylic paint works well too. Especially if you have little ones helping out. Set the base aside to dry.

While the base is drying, prepare the cardboard boxes and rolls. Measure and cut the wrapping paper to size. Then, spray the cardboard box with glue spray. Adhere the paper to the boxes, inside and out. As well as the outside of the rolls.

Once the tray has dried completely and the boxes are covered you can arrange them in the tray.

We got our Christmas trees and doweling at a Dollarama but a Dollar Tree would work just as well. Any Christmas decor can work if you can’t find the same trees, but keep in mind they need to be taller than a candy cane and wooden, so you can drill a hole to add the dowels.

What do you need to make a Candy Cane Holder?

• Wooden Christmas decor (we used trees attached to a wooden log base).
• Wooden dowels.
• Paint (red and white)
• Sealer (such as ModPodge)
• Pipe cleaners
• Drill
• Glue
• Accessories (optional)
• Candy canes

How to make a DIY Candy Cane Holder

• Measure your dowels and cut any excess length off. You want the horizontal bar to be high enough to lift and hold the candy canes.
• Paint the dowels. We decided to paint the dowels white adding a red swirl to the vertical ones, similar to a candy cane.
• Seal the dowels once the paint has dried.
• Drill a hole in the bottom of the wood holder, big enough for the red and white dowels to fit.
• Using the pipe cleaners, secure the vertical and horizontal dowels together (see photo below).
• Insert the dowels into the drilled holes in the Christmas tree base.
• Glue any accessories such as small buttons, jewels or glitter (optional)
• Add your candy canes!

We wanted to keep the cost down with this decoration, seeing as half of it cannot be reused next year, so it is considered a dollar store craft!  A clear cylinder vase, two cute ceramic bunnies, glass jars of different sizes, some pretty pink flowers and candy can create all three of these Easter centrepiece decoration ideas. Keep in mind, the items you find don’t have to be the same, as long as the idea is the same.  

DIY Easter Decorating Ideas – Using Candy!

What do you need for a DIY Easter decoration?

• Glass cylinder vase
• Small decorative jar
• Mason jar
• Artificial flowers
• Ceramic bunnies
• Candy of your choice (we used Easter coloured jelly eggs)

Each decorating idea is very simple to accomplish so it’s easy to do more then just one. Simply arrange the candy inside of the jar as you see fit and add elements to the top, side and middle!  Firstly, we used a ceramic bunny in the tall cylindrical vase. For another jar, we placed the flowers in a mason jar.

The small decorative jar is perfect for the smaller beans. To create a carrot appearance add some orange beans first then add some green ones, next pop one of the ceramic bunnies next to it to add to scene! Finally, arrange the jars and vases together or on separate tables. These will be very cute conversational pieces for the Easter season, right threw to the festive dinner.

DIY Dollar Store Bottle Opener for the Cottage

What you’ll need:

• Beer opener
• False leaves
• Shells
• Twine
• Beads
• Hot glue gun with glue
• Sea dollar (optional)
• Good vibes plaque (optional)

This DIY bottle opener is super easy to make. Firstly, cut some twine into varying lengths – these will be what the decorations will attach to. The bottle opener, leaves and then the plaque are all tied onto the twine with some beads thrown in for flair. We glued the sand dollar and shells onto the twine to secure them.

Once you have all your twine lengths decorated, tie them all together at the top to secure them. This will also create the loop to hang it from.

The dollar store bottle opener that we found came with a magnet on the back to hang it on the fridge, BUT, it also works to hold the bottle caps!! Perfect for a hanging bottle opener!

Crafter Hack – attach a magnet to the back of the opener or plaque for an easy way to store caps, so perfect for an outdoor bottle opener!!
