Of course, we feel that every year needs a new addition. Who are we kidding, it’ll be more than one new addition, lol. After all, what’s Christmas without a little DIY??  The tricky thing is deciding what to make, so we’re here to bring you inspiration. This week we’re breaking out our paints for this naturally beautiful winter scene, with glitter as the cherry on top, which shimmers and shines to create the illusion of tiny glitter twinkle lights. We know glitter can be messy, but we promise, adding it is 100% worth it. What You’ll Need: Three wood boards or canvas Acrylic paint in white, blue and light and dark green Flat tipped paint brush Pointed tip paint brush Foam brush Mod Podge or white glue White/Translucent glitter Hot glue gun and sticks Pencil Sketch out a basic outline of the trees and snow, then start by painting the snow banks in with white paint. Paint in the trees, starting with light green paint. Make a thin line as the centre of your tree and then add tree branches by tapping the flat tipped brush onto the board. Be sure to tap the brush in different directions to vary the shapes and make the trees wider at the bottoms, thinning out as you get to the top. Paint over the light green paint with dark green to add dimension to the trees. Use the same dabbing technique with the white paint to add snow. Use blue paint to add shadows under the trees. To achieve a softer look, use water to thin the blue paint a little bit. Don’t be afraid to go over the blue with some water and white paint if the blue is too dark or too strong. Add some Mod Podge or white glue with the sponge on top of the snow on the trees. Dab glitter onto the wet glue, don’t be afraid to be generous with the glitter! Using the point tip brush make dots in the background for snowflakes. The glitter twinkle lights are ready to be added to your holiday decorations or given away as a gift, happy crafting! Hearts and Arrows Valentine’s Day Wreath https://www.champagneandsugarplums.com/yarn-felt-hearts-and-arrows-valentines-day-wreath/ Tue, 28 Apr 2020 23:19:22 +0000 http://192.168.0.28:8010/?p=1162 We love festive decor, especially festive outdoor decor! Having a festive, DIY Valentine’s Day Wreath on the front door is a special way to welcome visitors. We created this charming yarn and felt Valentine’s Day Wreath, and we are smitten with it! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? We may get a small commission if you make a purchase using our links, which helps us to keep posting new holiday content every week. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, now is the perfect time to get started on this year’s lovely decorations. This wreath is easy to make, the perfect craft for a chilly day in front of the fire or when watching a movie. With minimum effort here comes maximum impact – this sweet wreath will make you and your guests feel the love! What You’ll Need: – An embroidery hoop or foam wreath base– Yarn in three colours– Felt in beige and light and dark pink– A straight-ish branch– Scissors– Hot Glue Gun– A small piece of ribbon or lace Firstly, tie the first colour of yarn around the hoop. Start wrapping the yarn around the hoop, keeping the loops tight against each other. Cover half of the hoop and then switch to the next colour. To do this, tie the two strings together and continue wrapping with tight loops, covering the tails as you go. Add as much of the accent colour as you like, we added a stripe every couple inches. Pop outside and find a neighborhood tree to lend you a branch. Clip off any twigs it may have. Cut out two matching hearts from the dark pink felt. I free-handed these hearts by folding the felt in half to make sure the heart was symmetrical, but you could also trace a wood shape, or use a stencil if you like. Glue the hearts onto the narrower end of the branch, one on top of the other to create an arrowhead. Halfway there… Repeat the heart steps, but draw half of a parallelogram instead. This will make the feathers, so glue these two pieces on the wider end of the branch. Tip: Only use glue next to the branch. Try not to get the on the edges of the ‘feathers’, it will make it easier to cut the ‘feathers’ in angled lines, about 1/4″ wide, all the way along the tail on both sides. Add a small bow on the accent yarn. This will finish the tail end nice and neatly. Loop a ribbon or some lace around the top of the wreath for hanging. If your using thin ribbon, you can simply tie the ends together to form a circle however, if you are using thicker ribbon or lace (like we did) you will need to glue the loop in place with some hot glue. Use some more glue to attach the arrow to the hoop. Then, use the same technique from earlier to cut out some different sized hearts in various colours. Attach them to the bottom of the Valentine’s Day Wreath. Your guests will LOVE coming over and knocking on your door. Happy crafting!
