We happen to love fall. Mostly because fall means Thanksgiving. And Thanksgiving means new decorations, and crafts, and desserts, and meals, and themed cocktails, and…..baked apples! Thanksgiving is the perfect time to start baking again. All those warm, baked goodies we haven’t made all summer because we’ve been making refreshing ice cream and sorbets. So, warm up your oven, because apple season is finally upon us! This blog post may contain affiliate links. What does that mean? They are ripe in the fall and make perfect desserts after big family meals . And apple desserts don’t get much easier than baked apples. These Baked Apples with Caramel and Brown Sugar are sweet and savoury, and will make your house smell amazing while they’re cooking! Three steps – using an apple corer, stuffing with oatmeal and spices, baking and they’re done. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream and it’s a dessert guaranteed to please. Our recipe calls for adding caramel sauce for a sweet topping. We added caramel because we LOVE caramel (who doesn’t?) and it goes so well with apples. We used a ready-made sauce to save time, but you could easily make your own. If you need a custard recipe, try this one from our friends at Nutriciously. Baked Apples with Caramel and Brown Sugar Remove the apple cores and fill with 1/2 tsp caramel sauce. Mix the brown sugar, oats and cinnamon in a bowl and then spoon some of the mix into each apple. Spoon 1/2 tsp of caramel sauce on top and then again add more of the oat mix and pack firmly. Arrange the apples in a baking dish and top each one with some butter. Bake for 40 – 50 minutes, until the apples are soft and the skin wrinkled. Serve warm with additional caramel drizzled over top of the apples and with a scoop of ice cream (try our Easy Homemade Almond Ice Cream!) or whipped cream. We hope you love these baked apples with caramel sauce and brown sugar as mush as we do! If you need some fabulous table decor for the big day, check out our Rustic Painted Pine Cones and Acorns.
